Concept Explanation
My design process began by looking at the prompt and seeking to address the needs of the client. I looked at their current website and logo, and competitors logos to get ideas for what similar organizations were doing. The current A2LP logo was similar to these other organizations, so I aimed to do something dierent while still keeping their needs in mind. The process followed these steps: ideation, sketches, drafts of several logotype designs, critique of those, and refinement. I wanted my logo to reflect the mission and the spirit of the organization, which is to connect people and to do that through language. The symbol is a cubist style image that symbolizes the mission of A2LP. A version of this logotype was included in my original sketches, but not in my first three logo designs. I took the advice of a classmate and turned this other sketch into a logo design, polishing it for this guide. This is based an art project that I did with 4th and 5th graders at an elementary school, which I think is fitting for a logotype for this organization. The colors (and the image) I chose were based o of those in the prompt and those found in the current A2LP logo. In my original design I used a yellow and red but chose to use only three colors in the final design because I wanted to simplify the design. I was introduced to this font (Source Sans Pro) by a friend and I like it for its readability and scalability, and that it looks professional but not too formal or business-like, which fits with the spirit of A2LP.
