Descriptive Writing Paper

OBJECTIVES: 1. To vividly use each of the 5 senses in your writing so that the reader can easily visualize what you are describing. Paint a picture with your words! 2. To use specific nouns (not just ANY shirt, an orange shirt) 3. To use thesaurus-rich adjectives SUBJECT: You may use ONE the prompts we started writing in class. You will take your rough draft from class and elaborate upon it to make it longer and better, and to make sure it contains specific nouns and rich adjectives that are placed before the noun. 1. Any of the creative writing prompts 2. Writing from a painting 3. The description of your bagged object, or a day in the life of your object 4. Your Jumble Story 5. The chapter ending from Grapes of Wrath DUE DATE: semester!) ORGANIZATION:
1. Introduction: This should capture the readers interest and should introduce your subject. If you are using your Grapes of Wrath chapter ending, you will want to introduce your story about the turtle as if the person reading it had never read the beginning of the chapter. 2. Body: This should be two to three paragraphs to describe your experience or your story and leave the reader with a clear mental picture of what you are writing about. Remember that your objective is to use vivid describing words that use your 5 senses. This should be your priority aside from the story. 3. Conclusion: This should tie your paper together with an ending. Dont leave your reader hanging. Does your turtle make it to the other side of the road or not? Does your bagged object end up at home or lost somewhere? Why is your favorite place your favorite? Did you learn something about yourself in that place? Why is the woman in the painting sad, happy, or however you decide? 4. Your paper must be at least TWO PAGES long, TYPED, in 12pt font and doublespaced. Stick with the default margin settings for Word. We will be working in the computer lab all next week so you should have plenty of time to write, edit, and revise your story.
