10 Shape & Space 2D (PG 206-217)

This document provides a lesson plan on teaching year 4 students about 2-dimensional shapes. It includes objectives to identify the sides and dimensions of squares, rectangles, and triangles, calculate perimeter and area, and solve word problems involving perimeter and area. Examples are provided to demonstrate finding perimeter of different shapes, calculating area of squares and rectangles using length x width, and solving multi-step word problems. Practice exercises include more problems to find perimeter and area and solve real world math application questions.

5. Solve problems involving perimeter and area of two-dimensional shapes. Example 1: The length of a classroom is 9m. Its breadth is 6m. Calculate the perimeter of the classroom. Step 1: Read and understand the question. As you read, underline the keywords The length of a classroom is 9m. Its breadth is 6m. Calculate the perimeter of the classroom. Step 2: Write the operation / formula the keywords signify. Perimeter of a square, a rectangle or a triangle is equal to the sum of all sides. Step 3: Using addition operation to solve the problem. Perimeter = 9m + 6m + 9m + 6m = 30m

Step 4: Check the answer. Perimeter = (9m 2) + (6m 2) = 18m + 12m = 30m
