WMGS Records Needed! Are any of our records stored at your home?
Cataloguing has begun on our societys history collection and it is evident we have been sadly negligent in preserving our own records. We have most of the early minutes of meetings, but committee, educational and other efforts are grossly underrepresented. A lot of work by dedicated people is not currently a part of our preserved story. We want to change that. Knowing how genealogists tend to keep every piece of paper forever, we are appealing to our members, and past members, to look through their treasures and see if you have any fliers, notes, newsletters, worksheets, minutes, etc. that are relevant to WMGS. If you know of someone who is no longer active, please contact them for us. Dont worry if the papers might be duplicates, unimportant or messy, our historian will sort them. Give what you have to any board member and well find them a home that will assure they are recognized as valued.
Current Board Members Don Bryant, Bill Grinstead, Bobbi Schirado, Dave Smith, George Bayard, Janet Jensen, Judy Wilson, Lisa Christensen, Lucy Read, Marcia Shears, Marlene Fabbro, Mindy Koole, Roger Moffat, Shirley DeBoer, Sue Irvine, Sue Rabick, Wanda Schottler, Ruth Waybrant
Saturday, 7th Sep 2013 Peggy Brumbaugh Topic: State of New York Research
The State of New York can be a real challenge to genealogists. We often have to get creative in our effort to find information and records in this state. It helps to know the "New York equivalent" of Michigan courts, towns, and villages. Some of the topics this presentation will address are New York's colonial history, location of vital records, immigration and naturalization records, land deeds, Internet resources, and networking. Peggy has been involved in family research for over 35 years. She became interested in genealogy as a teenager trying to decipher the handwriting on old family documents. Her personal areas of study are colonial Virginia, New York State, Ohio (Clermont County), and Illinois (Chicago). She holds a Bachelors Degree in Public History from Western Michigan University. When she is not doing historical research she is out in her yard gardening.
