Renewable Resources. Endless Possibilities.

As the worlds leading bio-refiner of pine chemicals, Arizona Chemical has an unsurpassed global sourcing position and world class operations from which to manufacture its SYLFAT tall oil fatty acid (TOFA) and SYLVATAL distilled tall oil (DTO) products for a wide variety of industrial applications. Sustainability is at the root of Arizona Chemicals business philosophy. The company uses biomass co-products from the forestry sector -- crude tall oil (CTO) and crude sulfate turpentine (CST) -- as its primary raw materials. When its refined, CTO offers a sustainable alternative to petrochemical raw materials and ensures that these valued raw materials are used in the most efficient and sustainable way and to their full potential.

Suggested Applications for SYLFAT & SYLVATAL Product Overview

Highly Recommended Recommended Functional Not Suggested
Tall Oil Fatty Acid (TOFA) SYLFAT Application Chemical Intermediates Descriptions
The functionality of the carboxylic group of the SYLFAT fatty acids undergoes various condensation reactions. Exhibits better low temperature properties than fatty acids from fats and oils. SYLFAT fatty acids can be used as chain terminators in condensation reactions to make these resins. SYLFAT provides formulation flexibility, shorter production cycles and reproducibility. SYLFAT fatty acids are used as precursors to surfactants used in asphalt emulsions. Rosin in TOFA not available in other fatty acid provides improved emulsion stability. SYLFAT fatty acids can be used as chain terminators in the production of epoxy resins. Similar functionality of fatty acids as from other fats and oils. SYLFAT fatty acids or derivatives can be used as additives for heavy fuels. Rosin content provides improved heavy metal scavenging characteristics. SYLFAT fatty acids can be used as chemical intermediates for the manufacture of additives in automotive and industrial lubricant formulations. Unique fatty acid composition offers good low temperature properties and flexible functionality over fatty acids from other fats and oils. SYLFAT fatty acids and derivatives are used as lubricity and load carrying additive in metal working fluid formulations. Unique rosin and fatty acid composition that enhances co-emulsification with sodium sulfonate and allows for film formation and emulsion stability. SYLFAT fatty acid derivatives used in mining functions such as flotation reagents, frothers, and defoamers. Unique fatty acid composition provides better selectivity and yield compared to fatty acids from fats and oils. SYLFAT fatty acid used as a component in drilling mud applications. Lower saturated fatty acid provides better low temperature storage properties and corrosion resistance. SYLFAT fatty acid derivatives are used as plasticizers in rubber to aid in processing and can impart desirable properties. Similar to fatty acids from other fats and oils. Soaps may be made from any of the SYLFAT fatty acid products alone or in combination with distilled tall oils, rosins, and acid refined tall oils. Similar to fatty acids from other fats and oils. SYLFAT fatty acid derivatives such as amines and imidazolines find use as textile lubricants, softeners, and antistatic agents. Similar to fatty acids from other fats and oils.
