TIPS ON ANSWERING PMR QUESTIONS

GRAPHIC STIMULI Steps: 1. Understand the question. 2. Look for the information you need. 3. Study the graphic materials and short text carefully. 4. Choose the best answer.

GUIDED WRITING - SPEECH GUIDELINES a. Speeches and talks are usually addressed to a certain group of people for certain occasions. The speaker has to provide information or to urge the audience to take certain actions. b. You must understand the occasion and know the audience so that you can choose the style that is interesting enough to get their attention. c. Be precise and clear. Use simple language and short sentences. Long sentences may confuse the audience or make them lose interest after a while. Long sentences tend to incur grammatical mistakes. d. When you begin your speech, greet the audience in order of importance and mention the occasion you are speaking at and the topic in your speech. e. Make sure you have a good and impressive introduction. f. In the body of the essay, write the details of the topic. And your own points. g. For the conclusion, close the speech well and remember to thank the audience. h. Finally, check your writing for spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors.

RATIONAL CLOZE a. The Rational cloze tests your understanding of grammar. b. You are given 10 questions: among the items tested are articles, conjunctions, determiners, prepositions, pronouns, subject verb agreement and tenses. c. To be able to handle this section, students should have a sound foundation in grammar.

d. It helps in answering the questions because then you can analyse why an option is correct or incorrect. How to find the best answer: a. Read the passage quickly to get a general idea of what is it about. b. Read the passage slowly a second time to understand it well. c. Choose the answer for each blank carefully. Always choose the best option. d. Search for clues within the passage. e. Make sure your answers are in the correct tense and part of speech. f. Go through your passage and see if it reads well and makes sense when all the answers you have chosen are inserted in the blanks.

Try to anticipate the correct response before you are distracted by seeing the options that the question has provided. Then, uncover the responses. e. If you see the response that you anticipated, circle it and then check to be sure that none of the other responses is better. f. If you do not see a response that you expected, then consider to eliminate responses that are probably wrong.

NOVEL Understand every novel fully. Read and understand the theme, setting, characters, lessons and moral values for each novel. When answering, choose the novel that you are most confident. Give your answer with elaborations and examples from the novel. Give your answer in paragraph form and not in point form. Your answer is more than 50 words long. Make sure your answer is organized.
