Use of Statistics in Daily Life

Statistics are tools used to organize and analyze numeric or quantifiable data. They serve two main purposes: description and prediction. Descriptive statistics reveal patterns in variable data, while inferential statistics enable probabilistic prediction based on analyzing large data sets. The use of statistics has expanded greatly over time from state information to applications across sciences, business, medicine and more. Modern statistics relies on probability theory and is distinguished from mathematics as its own field of study.

Use of Statistics in Daily Life

Introduction to Use of statistics in daily life:Statistics deal with frequency distribution. It is used to compare two or more frequency distribution taken from different population to see if there are any differences between them. The statistics uses the following measures for the comparison. They are mean, median and mode. Mean is the average of all the observations. Median is the middle most value of the observations and mode has the maximum frequencies. Let us see the use of statistics in daily life. Use of Statistics in Daily Life: mean Mean can be used to see the average mark of the class obtained. This average helps to see how many students are above average, how many are average students and how many are below averages. The teacher tries to help the average and below average students to score more grades in future. In a factory, the mean of the wages helps the authorities to know if the workers' welfare is maintained. It also helps to compare the salaries of the employees of the different companies. In sales, the average sales in the district help the sales manager to plan for increasing the sales in the future. The government takes the average income and expense of the citizens to know whether the citizens rights are maintained. The family finds the average of their expenses to balance their finance. The average production of agricultural commodities, the industrial goods, the average exports and imports help the country to see their developments. Use of Statistics in Daily Life - Median & Mode Median is the middle value. It helps us to see both the sides of the middle value. It divides the information into two equal parts, one part lesser than median and the other more than the median. Median is calculated after arranging the information in ascending order or descending order. Median is used to find the students who score less or more than the middle value.

Introduction to Statistics
Statistics is a set of tools used to organize and analyze data. Data must either be numeric in origin or transformed by researchers into numbers. For instance, statistics could be used to analyze percentage scores English students receive on a grammar test: the percentage scores ranging from 0 to 100 are already in numeric form. Statistics could also be used to analyze grades on an essay by assigning numeric values to the letter grades, e.g., A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, and F=0. Employing statistics serves two purposes, (1) description and (2) prediction. Statistics are used to describe the characteristics of groups. These characteristics are referred to as variables. Data is gathered and recorded for each variable. Descriptive statistics can then be used to reveal the distribution of the data in each variable. Statistics is also frequently used for purposes of prediction. Prediction is based on the concept of generalizability: if enough data is compiled about a particular context (e.g., students studying writing in a specific set of classrooms), the patterns revealed through analysis of the data collected about that context can be generalized (or predicted to occur in) similar contexts. The prediction of what will happen in a similar context is probabilistic. That is, the researcher is not certain that the same things will happen in other contexts; instead, the researcher can only reasonably expect that the same things will happen. Prediction is a method employed by individuals throughout daily life. For instance, if writing students begin class every day for the first half of the semester with a fiveminute free writing exercise, then they will likely come to class the first day of the second half of the semester prepared to again free write for the first five minutes of class. The students will have made a prediction about the class content based on their previous experiences in the class: Because they began all previous class sessions with free writing, it would be probable that their next class session will begin the same way. Statistics is used to perform the same function; the difference is that precise probabilities are determined in terms of the percentage chance that an outcome will occur, complete with a range of error. Prediction is a primary goal of inferential statistics.

History of statistics
The history of statistics can be said to start around 1749 although, over time, there have been changes to the interpretation of what the word statistics means. In early times, the meaning was restricted to information about states. This was later extended to include all collections of information of all types, and later still it was extended to include the analysis and interpretation of such data. In modern terms, "statistics" means both sets of collected information, as in national accounts and temperature records, and analytical work which require statistical inference. Statistical activities are often associated with models expressed using probabilities, and require probability theory for them to be put on a firm theoretical basis: see History of probability. A number of statistical concepts have had an important impact on a wide range of sciences. These include the design of experiments and approaches to statistical inference such as Bayesian inference, each of which can be considered to have their own sequence in the development of the ideas underlying modern statistics.

Statistics today
During the 20th century, the creation of precise instruments for agricultural research, public health concerns (epidemiology, biostatistics, etc.), industrial quality control, and economic and social purposes (unemployment rate, econometry, etc.) necessitated substantial advances in statistical practices. Today the use of statistics has broadened far beyond its origins. Individuals and organizations use statistics to understand data and make informed decisions throughout the natural and social sciences, medicine, business, and other areas. Statistics is generally regarded not as a subfield of mathematics but rather as a distinct, albeit allied, field. Many universities maintain separate mathematics and statistics departments. Statistics is also taught in departments as diverse as psychology, education, and public health. Example of the statistics today : Example of Market Research Telecommunications & IT Market Wireless & Mobile Communication For Asia Mobile Communications Statistics from http://www.chinaccm.com 2007-9-19 13:52 Published on September 2007. Let try to review Executive Summary: Asias mobile industry has been one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in the world. By early 2006, we saw the region reach 850 million mobile subscribers (overall regional penetration 23%) and the total subscriber base was still growing at an annual rate of almost 25%. After a period where annual subscriber growth rates were well in excess of 50%, there has been a

slowing of growth in recent years, settling to between 20% and 30%. There is still more room for growth. Asia has not only been dynamic in terms of subscriber growth, it has also been a leader in innovation with such products as NTT Do Comos I-Mode in Japan and the widespread application of SMS. This report provides statistical tables relating to the Asian mobile market, grouped by country. Example about the tourism statistic 2007: CAMBODIA TOURIST STATISTICAL REPORT Cambodias tourism industry continued to grow in 2007, with international visitors arrivals reached a total of 2,015,128; an 18.53% increase compared over 2006 figure of 1,700,041; Siem Reap Angkor arrivals had increased with 1,120,586 visitors, representing 55.61%, an amazing 30.83% growth from last year, while Phnom Penh and other destinations had brought in a total of 894,542 visitors (44.39%). Mode of arrivals: The total number of visitor arrivals in Cambodia by air in 2007 was 1,296,513 (64.34%), an increase of 26.23%. This consisted of flights that had been scheduled through the Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airport. Phnom Penh International Airport had 535,262 visitor arrivals this month, representing 26.56%, with an increase of 25.24%, while Siem Reap International Airport dominated 761,251 visitor arrivals (37.78%), an extraordinary rise with 26.94% up. Other travellers went via Land & Waterways, which made up about one-third of the total number of visitor arrivals 576,054 (28.59%) Visitors arriving by land comprised of 532,366 (26.42%) Waterways made up of 43,688 visitor arrivals (2.17%), giving it an increase of 9.81%. Same-day visitors brought in 142,561 (7.07%)

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Reflection

After spending countless hours, days and night to finish this project and also sacrificing my time for chatting and movies. There are several things that I can say... Additional Mathematics... From the day I bore... From the day I was able to holding pencil... From the day I start learning... And... From the day I heard your name... I always thought that you will be my greatest obstacle and rival in excelling in my life... But after countless of hours... Countless of days... Countless of nights... After sacrificing my precious time just for you... Sacrificing my play Time... Sacrificing my Chatting... Sacrificing my Facebook... Sacrificing my internet... Scarifying my Anime... Sacrificing my Movies... I realized something really important in you... I really love you... You are my real friend... You my partner... You are my soul mate...
