The use of sugar Although the main reason for the use of sugar is its sweet taste, sugar

has many other functions in food technology. The most important among these are that added sugar in foods acts as a sweetener, preservative, texture modifier, fermentation substrate, flavouring and colouring agent, bulking agent. The various methods of use of sugar are based on its physical and chemical properties. The replacement of sugar by the newly available sweeteners is difficult if the sweetness values or physical and chemical properties of the substitutes differ greatly from those of sucrose. What is carbon dioxide used Carbon dioxide is used in life jackets which often contain carbon dioxide for quick deflation. High concentrations can also be used to kill pests, such as the common moth ball. The gas is used commonly to produce carbonated soft drinks and soda water. Leavening agents produce carbon dioxide to cause dough to rise, it extinguishes flames and some fire extinguishers especially those designed for electrical fires, contain liquid carbon dioxide under pressure. Plants require it to conduct photosynthesis and green houses may enrich their atmospheres with additional CO2 to boost plant growth. The frozen form of carbon dioxide, dry ice, can be mixed with hot water to make a white gas that is used in theatres as steam - Used to products carbonated soft drinks and soda water. - Different candies are made from it. - Used as compressed gas for pneumatic systems - Used in fire extinguishers - Used in welding - It acts as a good solvent for lipophilic organic compounds. Water use Water is our most precious resource. Water is vital to life. Humans, plants, and animals are made up of mostly water. All living things would die if it weren't for water. We use water for drinking, washing, cleaning, cooking, and growing our food as well as many, many other things. The average American uses around 150-250 gallons of water daily. Even more water is used by industries to generate electricity, manufacture things, and transport people and goods. Uses of sulfur dioxide As a preservative, In wine making, As a reducing bleach, Precursor to sulfuric acid, As a refrigerant, As a reagent and solvent, Dechlorination, Uses of lime water You can use it to test for the presence of Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
