PROJECT/PRACTICE RELATED COMPETENCIES

Project /Practice Management


Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities. Manages day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope. Reviews deliverables prepared by team before passing to client. Effectively applies our methodology and enforces project standards. Prepares for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures. Minimizes our exposure and risk on project. Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.

Project Accounting

Tracks and reports team hours and expenses on a weekly basis. Manages project budget. Determines appropriate revenue recognition, ensures timely and accurate invoicing, and monitors receivables for project. Follows up with clients, when necessary, regarding unpaid invoices. Analyzes project profitability, revenue, margins, bill rates and utilization.

Possesses general understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design. Understands Internet, Intranet, Extranet and client/server architectures. Main Duties Project manager is required to manage the resources of a project. This includes the people working on the project as well as any equipment. You will responsible for the project being delivered on time and to budget to a high quality. They will use software to help them track the time and budget and break it down in to sections so that it is in more manageable sections. You may consider using Microsoft Project. Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing written reports on the project and presenting progress reports. You are expected to work with everyone involved on the project to ensure it is all delivered in a timely manner and within budget. Make sure that resources are economical but of sound quality; so provide good value for the cost of the project. Closely monitor this, ensuring the workforce are reaching their potential as well as checking that any equipment is running properly and items purchased are offering value for money to the project. Manages, prioritizes, develops, and implements information technology solutions, to meet the business needs. Prepares and executes project plans using project management software following the standard methodology. Establishes cross-functional end-user teams defining and implementing projects on time and within budget. Acts as a liaison between third-party service providers and end-users to develop and implement technology solutions. Participates in vendor contract development and budget management. Provides post implementation support.

Qualifications Required
A degree is essential and a business or industry related subject would be preferable. Additional project management qualifications from the Project management Institute. Several years of relevant work experience in a related field.

Specific Qualifications for IT Project Manager


PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification or equivalent preferred. Bachelors Degree or higher in Engineering, Technology or related field. Minimum 5-10 years of project management or IT Management. Minimum 3 years of experience coordinating and/supporting IT business processes. Program/Product Managers require scheduling and budgeting experience.

He should ensure that all individuals affected are included in the plan prior to implementation of any new ideas. This requires coordination and teamwork. Additionally, the project manager should always remain calm under pressure and possess good leadership skills.
