Job Description

Head Nurse

Job objectives: Supervise, directs and responsible for the administration of nursing service in a single patient unit, under the direction of the nurse supervisor.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific Duties and Responsibilities


Shall supervise the station, no patient load takes on patient assignment when deemed necessary. Endorse to incoming charge nurse all patient in the unit. Supervises the ward clerk in carrying out doctors order and prompt preparation and updating of greensheet, memo, diet list, etc. referrals and coordination with attending physician, resident and other department on patient concern. Communicates informs about the doctors order to assigned bedside nurse. Ensures completeness and updated individual patient cardex. Prepares and checks daily patient assignment of her staff according to staff capacity. Makes periodic rounds and patient visits to know complaints on patient care and communicates to nurse supervisor for information and prompt action if necessary. Ensures prompt distribution and 50% refusal of PEFs unit. Makes monthly schedule to indicate those on official leave, recommends approval and disapproval of leave, submit every 25th of the month for checking of supervisors and encoding of nursing service clerk. Coordinates with the HR department in recruiting and luring of nursing personnel and recommends the same for promotion or dismissal depending on staffing needs and promotion. Orients new staff in the unit. Schedules staff as in services training.

Conducts regular monthly unit meeting and attends nursing service meeting and other hospital meeting when necessary. Assigns senior staff for preparation for house trainees or probationary staff. Plans, identifies for the units to at least continue quality improvement activity for the year. Contributes to financial soundness and stability through efficient budgeting and disbursement. Ensures and maintains adequacy and availability of stocks, supplies and equipment necessary for good patient care for the unit. Supervise the cleanliness and orderliness of the unit. Participates in the continuing education program, scholarly activities like case studies and research in and out of the hospital when application and relevance to nursing service is the goal. Acts as nurse supervisor when delegated by the directors of nursing service. Consistently implements the quality policy, quality objectives and procedures of the DDH ISO 9001 quality system. Undertakes action to correct non conformity that might be observed as found in the work area. Performs new work as may be assigned by the nurse supervisor.
