2014/Sophie Morris Sophie Morris and her band are used to getting a reaction for the wrong attention. During her first tour at Birminghams O2 I see this lead singers Cherub face spitting in the face of rock. The driven phenomenal mishmash between heavy rock and alterative that Bolt creates makes the Rolling Stones question what theyre listening too! The morning after I interviewer her on being on the end of the media. Im not really sure how our fandom even began she recalls smirking. Its like our little band with weird music has become famous! I remember only recently people throwing coins and all sorts onto the stage; she recalls with a bemused giggle. She goes on to tell me of how this isnt the first time the band was unlinked. On playing the small arena at Reading 2012 festival they were told to get off! (Oh how times have changed!) IT ALL started in a flat in Birmingham where all members were attending university studying. I hated every minute of it she exclaims Ive never been into education Im more of the creative type! Sophie Morris set out as a solo artist gigging local pubs and clubs when guitarist Rob Holliday was taking noticed and shocked. The band slowly formed gaining other members Joe and Billy. Sophie Morriss angle face took the lead with the others accompanying and as she says now were here. It was never my intention to be a uni drop out but Id also never considered doing this either! Quickly the band was involving parents to drive them around the country playing small gigs and getting known in the circuit. It didnt take them long to realise they werent the ordinary the other bands. People would just stand and stare as even theyd seen a ghost! I think its the mash up of the unique. We dont care what people think thou. We dance like its the last night of our lives and were having so much fun! If the others werent so lazy and could get up before 12 oclock theyd tell you the same! Its cause theyre lightweights its a good job I have stopped drinking or none of us

would have turned up!. As publically known, Sophies embarrassing moments have been caught on camera. Being in a rock band as great as it is there no rest! she mellows from her natural loud self. I think its helped a lot with my new lifestyle. You get what you want when you want before. But for my own sake I eat and drink healthy it makes me feels so much more alive. The change has come at a coincidence to dating model Max Such. Were so happy together I just wish the media would back off a bit thou I understand people are excited and I love that, I am too but we need privacy sometimes! TO DATE Bolt has managed to rack up a total of 300 shows including playing a blinding show at Download recently. But theyre not true rock stars yet. Drugs and alcohol may come easy but theyre not living the life of luxury travelling in a van and sleeping in B&Bs. Sophie says that something is far more important and fulfilling than riches: experience. To do the band full time means Sophie dropping out of college of a music course. The rest of the band has also taken a year away from university to take part on the made whirl wind. We dont have any ambition we never expected this at all! We just want to mess around and gain experience. She beams at me once more. Before the band began Id barely been out of Birmingham. Now were travelling the whole country travelling places Id has never gone to! I love that. None of us have much money clearly were all uni drop outs! But I just love the life of going on tour and having the best time. ITS THIS spirit they have that surges through Bolts new album, Hysteria. They may service certain music grounds with similar bands like Fall out Boy or Paramore but style wise it certainly doesnt conform to this scene. Unlike most rock we havent got anything to be angry about! A lot of this style of music comes from a deep heavy place but we arent like that. We are generally really happy and that comes into our

music. I am either really high or really low. Thats whats the interesting part portrayed through music. Its hard to get bored listening to Bolt. As with their gigs there unique style is hard to ignore on their debut album Hysteria regardless of the love or hate you have for them. It scratches, tickles, bites and prods from so many different angels its impossible to tune out. As soon as you try the riffs and Sophie roaring it seems on all other frequencies. Its quite unlike anything youve ever heard before. I love the unique opinions people try to fit our music into. The one I hate is when people call it arty. It cant just be pigeonholed that easily. All music is to some degree art. It just seems lazy the bunds loads of bands into that category. So where do you think you fit? At the mention of this Sophie looks as if shes just asked Simon Cowell to take over song writing duties. I think well settle down and find our place in the rock scene but that when itll start to get boring. She says in closing. I never want to be boring I always want to walk on hot coals.
