Temperature Based Fan Speed Control

This project describes an embedded temperature based fan speed controller that uses an AT89C2051 microcontroller to dynamically control the speed of a fan based on temperature feedback. A temperature sensor senses the temperature and sends the analog signal to the microcontroller via an ADC. The microcontroller then drives control relays using a ULN2803 driver circuit to control the fan motor speed via a tagged wire wound resistor. The system displays the sensed and set temperature values on an LCD to make it user-friendly. It provides compact and reliable temperature control for various applications.

ABSTRACT

This project is a standalone Temperature based fan speed controller that controls the speed of the fan according to our requirement. Use of embedded technology makes this closed loop feedback control system efficient and reliable. Micro controller (AT89 !"# allo$s dynamic and faster control. %iquid crystal display (% &# makes the system user'friendly. (t is )ery compact using fe$ components and can be implemented for se)eral applications including air'conditioners* $ater'heaters* sno$'melters* o)ens* heat'e+changers* mi+ers* furnaces* incubators* thermal baths and )eterinary operating tables. AT89 !" micro controller is the heart of the circuit as it controls all the functions. The temperature sensor %M,! senses the temperature and con)erts it into an electrical (analog# signal* $hich is applied to the micro controller through A& . The analog signal is con)erted into digital format by the analog'to'digital con)erter (A& #. The sensed and set )alues of the temperature are displayed on the "-+.'line % &. The micro controller dri)es control relays by means of U%/ dri)er circuit to control the motor speed $ith the help of high $attage tagged $ire $ound resistor. 0ingle pole double thro$ (01&T# relays are connected to the micro controller through a U%/ dri)er circuit. The relays require ". )olts at a current of around !2 mA* $hich cannot be pro)ided by the micro controller. 0o the U%/ dri)er circuit is added. The relays are used to operate the electrical fan or for operating any other electrical de)ice. /ormally the relays remain off. As soon as pin of the micro controller goes high* the relays operate. This project uses regulated !3* !22mA 4 ".3* !22mA po$er supply. 582! and 58". three terminal )oltage regulators are used for )oltage regulation. 6ridge type full $a)e rectifier is used to rectify the ac out put of secondary of .,27".3 step do$n transformer. This project is useful in process industries for maintenance and controlling of 6oilers temperature.
