Unitary Method: Answer

Unitary Method is a calculation method that involves first finding the value of one unit and then using that to determine the value of the required number of units. It can be used to calculate costs, measurements, distances, or times. The key steps are: 1) Find the value associated with one unit using the information given, 2) Use the value from one unit to determine the value for the required number of units. Examples provided calculate costs based on number of items, distances traveled based on time and speed, and work completed based on number of workers.

Question: What is Unitary Method ?

Answer: This is a method of carrying out a calculation to find the value of a number of items by first finding the cost of one of them. For example, suppose that 3 tennis balls cost $5.52 and we need to find the cost of 5 tennis balls. e can find first find the cost of ! ball as $5.52 " 3 # $!.$%, then of the 5 balls by $!.$% x 5 # &'.2(. The same approach can be used to find how far a train will travel in 25 minutes if in $ minutes it covers !!.2 miles, assuming it travels at the same speed. )n ! minute the train travels !!.2 * $ # !.% miles, so in 25 minutes it will travel !.% x 25 # 35 miles. For instance if we +now that a and b are proportional to one another, and that when a # ,, b # !(, and we are re-uired to find the value of a when b # ,, then we may proceed as follows. a # , when b # !(, so a # ,"!( when b # !, so a # %'"!( when b # ,. This is called a unitary method.

Unitary Method
Explanation Unitary Method comprises of following two steps ./ Step 1 = Find the value of one unit. Step 2 = Then find the value of re-uired units. Following are some examples explaining Unitary Method. Example 1 = 5 buses carry 2(( passengers. 0ow many passengers can 2( buses carry 1 Answer = The process is as ./ Step 1 = Find how many passengers ! bus carry . To find this, we have to divide the given number of passengers22((3 by given number of buses253 because one bus will carry less passengers as compared to 5 buses 5 buses carry passengers # 2(( ! bus carry passengers # 2(( * 5 # %( Step 2 = Find how many passengers 2( bus carry . To find this, we have to multiply the re-uired number of buses22(3 with number of passengers one bus can carry2%(3 because more buses will carry more passengers. ! bus carry passengers # %( 5 buses carry passengers # %( 4 2( # $((. Alternati e Method 5bove mentioned method is long. 6nce you understand the concept of Unitary

Method, you can directly apply this method in following ways ./ 5 buses carry passengers # 2(( ! bus carry passengers # 22(( * 53 2( bus carry passengers # 22(( * 53 4 2( # %( 4 2( # $((. Example 2 = 5 wor+er can complete a wor+ in 2( days. )n how many days same wor+ will be completed if !( wor+ers are employed. Answer = The process is as ./ Step 1 = Find in how many days ! wor+er will do the given wor+. To find this, we have to multiply the given wor+er253 with given number of days22(3 because one wor+er will ta+e more days to complete the given wor+ as compared to 5 wor+ers. 5 wor+ers complete the given wor+s in days # 2( ! wor+er complete the given wor+s in days # 22( 4 53 # !(( Step 2 = Find in how many days !( wor+er will do the given wor+. To find this, we have to divide numbers of days in which ! wor+er will complete2!((days3 by the re-uired number of wor+ers2!(3 because more men complete given wor+ in lesser days. ! wor+er complete the given wor+s in days # !(( !( wor+ers complete the given wor+s in days # 2!(( * !(3 # !( Alternati e Method 5bove mentioned method is long. 6nce you understand the concept of Unitary Method, you can directly apply this method in following ways ./ 5 wor+ers complete the given wor+s in days # 2( ! wor+er complete the given wor+s in days # 22( 4 53 !( wor+ers complete the given wor+s in days # 22( 4 53 * !( # !(( * !( # !(

Mathemati!s " Unitary Method

Unitary method is a way of calculating the value of a number of items by first finding the cost of one of them. Unitary method can be used to calculate cost, measurements like litres and time.

Finding the value of required quantity by first nding the value of one.
