unemployment rate at 00./ percent. ost o, the people in the national capital
region came ,rom di,,erent part o, our country. They chose to live there in
National )apital &egion because they thought that wor-ing there would give
higher incomes to them. 3ut ' thin- the most probable reason why the
unemployment rate rose up because those people who graduated too- a rest
be,ore they try to ,ind a =ob. Then2 some o, them does not want to wor- or
there>s no vacancy. ?or e@ample2 there has a higher percentage o, people who
too- an 'n,ormation Technology program2 but they will end up on a di,,erent =ob
that not suits to their program. *aving the large number o, graduate students
in a certain program can be a bit problem because there has no enough =ob ,or
them to ,ill in. (o2 some o, the graduates2 well the good ones2 chose to wor-

comes ,or them to ,ind a =ob2 there>s no vacancy.
3. !overty is one o, the most critical social problem in our country. The rate o,
poverty here in the !hilippines rose as the years goes by. They say that the
main cause o, poverty here in the !hilippines is the lac- o, proper education.
3ut ' thin-2 it>s because o, lac- on ,amily planning. They =ust -eep on having a
baby but they didn>t -now what will happen or i, they can support the li,e o,
their child. (ome o, them believe that lac- o, education is the main cause o,
poverty. They believe that uneducated ?ilipinos2 doesn>t have care about
,amily. They ma-e so many children that they can>t support and leave their
children on the streets to ma-e money ,or them. ?ilipinos put also all the blame
in this CpovertyD problems on the government. They can>t =ust put all the wor- in
the government. ', they don>t wor- then the government can>t help. ost o, the
?ilipinos that are in the lower class tend to put all the blame in the government.
They -eep on saying that the government should help them. They =ust can>t
wait ,or the help o, the government2 our country has many problems than
poverty. The only person that can help them is their selves. ', only they wor-
and wor- until they ,ind the relie, that they want in their li,e then the problem is
solved. Even though there>s no vacancy ,or them2 they can thin- o, some
business that can help them. ?ilipinos are wise when it comes to business. 3ut
most o, us will =ust wait ,or the time to have a vacancy in some company. Ee
don>t want to ris- a money ,or some business that we don>t have an assurance
i, it will become a hit or not.
). The )limate o, the !hilippines is either tropical rain,orest2 tropical
savanna or tropical monsoon2 or humid subtropical (in higher9altitude areas)
characteri.ed by relatively high temperature2 oppressive humidity and plenty
o, rain, all. There are two seasons in the country2 the wet season and the dry season2
based upon the amount o, rain, all.
Eeather in the !hilippines is monitored and managed by the government agency
-nown locally as !+F+(+ or the !hilippine +tmospheric2 Feophysical and
+stronomical (ervices +dministration.
Despite the e,,orts o, the government to improve the 6uality o, the air we breathe2 air
pollution is still a serious threat to the environment and to millions o, its citi.ens.
etro anila is considered one o, the urban areas that is highly e@posed to the air

pollution called soot2 which consists o, comple@ and varying mi@tures o, particles
suspended in the air.
+utomobiles are the main culprit in the widespread o, the pollution in the country.
The use o, diesel ,uels in automobiles emits to@ic substance content such as carbon
dio@ide2 methane2 nitrous o@ide2 sul,ur and ben.ene2 all o, these are to@ic air
contaminants associated with lung cancer.
't was not only air pollution. #ur country also su,,ers ,rom water pollution. #ur rivers2
la-es2 beaches2 or any ,orm o, water are polluted. The water that we drin- are2 o,
course2 e@empted. Despite the e,,ort o, the di,,erent organi.ations on helping to
clean this rivers2 beaches2 and la-es it can>t be that easy. 't has been a long time
be,ore they thought about cleaning those water ,orms. This water pollution also
a,,ects the air. The to@ic that came out ,rom the waste on the rivers mi@ to the air that
we>re breathing.
There are some organi.ation that helps the government on cleaning those rivers.
?or e@ample2 CGapitbisig para sa 'log !asigD a certain T% program made this event
to rehabilitate it.
D. !overty2 unemployment2 and street children are connected to each other. (treet
children is one o, the e,,ect o, poverty and unemployment. ', they only got a good =ob
that can help them live then they won>t ,ind li,e is hard and they won>t let their
children to lure around the streets.
+ccording to the 0HH7 report2 entitled I(ituation o, the $outh in the !hilippines2I
there are about 0.: million street children in the !hilippines. Every day2 at least a
street child is seen wal-ing along the streets2 loo-ing ,or a place to stay. any spend
their day begging ,or money to buy some ,ood.
+ccording to the C+ 3etter "i,eD ,oundation2 there are three di,,erent categories o,
street children4 ?irst2 those children that wor- on the streets but do not live there.
They have home to return to a,ter wor-ing. (econd2 those children that ma-e their
homes on the street. "ast2 those children that have no ,amily and are entirely on
their own ,or physical and psychological survival. (ometimes2 while they are on the
streets they tend to create a sort o, ,amily with their ,ellow street children.
There are problem having a street children. These problems are li-e drugs2 health
problem2 child prostitution2 and se@ual e@ploitation.
The most common substances they have been using are inhalants2 such as
solvents2 rugby and cough syrups2 ,ollowed by mari=uana and shabu. ari=uana and
shabu in particular are shared with ,riends whenever one o, the group has enough
money to buy them. That>s why most o, us don>t give ClimosD or money to them

whenever they as-ed as we wal- past them. Ee conclude that they will =ust use the
money to buy those inhalants or drugs.
This time the health problem will enter. (treet children are thin2 untidy2
undernourished2 and hardly e6uipped to survive the ha.ards o, everyday living and
wor-ing on the streets.
)hild prostitutes are used by ,oreign se@ tourists and pedophiles2 as well as local
people. any street children are lured into prostitution as a means o, survival2 while
others do it to earn money ,or their ,amilies.
E. The causes o, illiteracy in the !hilippines are poverty2 the accessibility o, education2
and problems concerning health. !overty is a big reason ,or this occurrence. This
includes the budget ,or transportation and ,ood allowance2 tuition and other
miscellaneous ,ees. "iteracy occurs once you are literate. (o2 children ,rom birth to
the ages they start attending school and learning are illiterate. There is no age
speci,ic2 per say. 't is an individual thing. #lder people who have never been to
school have more wisdom then many who have attended schools and thin- they
-now it all.
+ lot o, ?ilipino children today do not have a chance to be in school and be
educated. There could be several reasons ,or this2 and one o, these is the inability o,
the parents to send their children to school because o, their lac- o, money or they
=ust want their children to help them on wor-. 3eing less ,ortunate2 the parents would
suggest to their children that they should wor- than go to school and study. These
children would grow old o, not being able to go to school2 and =ust wor- and wor- ,or
the rest o, their lives. +nd when the time comes that they will have their own ,amily it
will happen again. +ctually poverty2 illiteracy2 street children and unemployment are
connected to each other. They are cause and e,,ect o, a certain problem. The e,,ect
o, poverty are street children and illiteracy and that cause o, poverty is
unemployment. Those ,amilies that are less ,ortunate are not all the same. (ome
parents still want their children go to school and study even though they can>t a,,ord
the everyday e@penses in school. ', luc-y2 there are some organi.ations that teach
street children or children that can>t go to school.
