AR 6012 Site Planning and Landscape Architecture

Module 1: SITE PLANNING PROCESS AND INTRODUCTION TO LANDSCAPE
ARCHITECTURE: Need, Definition, scope and relationship in between site planning & landscape
Arch.

Module 2: SITE ANALYSIS: Site selection Criteria, Context, Physiography, Geology, Geomorphology,
Vegetation survey, Hydrological analysis, Climatic and Microclimatic factors, Visual assessment and
analysis, Environmental factors, Tutorials on site analysis.

Module 3: EVOLUTION OF GARDEN DESIGN: A brief study of different garden types: Period,
Landscape Features, Experience and Style and changes in Landscapes that occurred with: Indian Vedic
Gardens, Mughal gardens, Renaissance Gardens, Greek and Roman Gardens, English Gardens, French
Gardens, Italian Gardens, J apanese gardens, Chinese Gardens, and

Module 4: Contemporary thoughts of landscape. Pocket Parks and Narrative Landscapes.

Module 5: MAJOR AND MINOR ELEMENTS OF LANDSCAPE: Definition of spaces
Topographic spaces, Water spaces, Tree Spaces, degrees of enclosure; Landforms, Water, Plant material,
Edges , Paths, Microclimatic considerations and their role in landscape design.

Module 6: APPLICATION OF DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS in out door space organization:
Relationship of site, landscape and people, Areas, Nodes, Circulation, Grade Separators, Passive and
Active recreation spaces, Aesthetics, Landscape situations etc.

Module7: MAN MADE ELEMENTS OF LANDSCAPE AND THEIR DETAILS: Hard and soft
landscaping, Streetscape design, Parking areas, garden furniture, lighting fixtures, signage and sign
boards, fences, garden hardware and surface treatment, paving materials, surface drainage, artworks,
planters, garden shelters, artificial rocks, plants and water falls, Rock garden, terrace garden, Indoor
garden.
