Boiler Brief
Boiler Brief
By C&D
Pic 1: Boiler No 1 at MOLIPASA Sugar Mill, we designed a modification to existing furnace and new
superheater, boiler bank, air heater, economizer and spray tower scrubber to retrofit this low
efficiency boiler from 55t/h, 21kg/cm2, 280C up to 90t/h, 31,6kg/cm2, 385C superheated steam
at a nice 84-85% efficiency upon the LHV.
Features:
Bare spaced tube, pinhole grate furnace, pendant superheater, three passes bank, one pass
second stage air heater, a bare tubes economizer between the tow stages of air heating and a two
pass first stage of air heater. The scrubber is a spray tower type, The fan body was designed upon
and existing rotor and shaft they got. Left, with red helmet our Engineer J. Salcedo looks at the
boiler.
Pic 2: Boiler No 2 at CAZUCA mill, Venezuela, 83t/h, 28kg/cm2, 370C during erection,
commissioned back in 2003. This was a full boiler design partially developed (shared) with a
Brazilian manufacturer.
Features:
Pinhole grate membrane walls furnace, pendant superheater, three passes bank, a three passes air
heater and a bare tubes economizer.
Pic 3: Front wall of Boiler No 4 at CAZTA Sugar Mill, Venezuela, 72t/h, 21kg/cm2, 275C. Expected
to be commissioned by January 2008. A new design made upon two existing brand new drums and
a basement for a 56t/h boiler.
Features:
Pinhole grate membrane walls furnace, pendant superheater, three passes bank, a three passes air
heater.
Pic 4: Boiler No 2 (center) at La Pastora Sugar Mill in Venezuela. 85t/h, 42,6kg/cm2, 400C
superheated steam, 85% efficiency.
Features:
Pinhole grate membrane walls furnace, furnace, radiant pendant superheater, three passes
convective bank, a one pass secondary (overfire) 300C high pressure air, then a bare tubes
economizer followed by the primary (undergrate) three passes air heater that produces a low
pressure 200C air.
Furnace deep is reduced by rear wall which is bended forward to reduce grate area whilst furnace
bottom is lined with refractory this furnace is almost perfect for combustion of highly prepared
bagasse, the high pressure & temperature secondary air provides a high turbulence aerodynamics
to complete oxidation and increase residence time. Each air heater has its own force draught fan.
Pic 5: Our LN600 pneumatic spreader has a build-in rotary valve to produce a pulsating stream of
air for an even distribution of bagasse
Pic 6: Eng. M. Roccassalva (red helmet) trains operators for one boiler we designed.
Pic 7: A single drum bottom supported boiler that is designed for most shop assembly in order to
reduce erection time, accordingly to Experienced Contractor 3 to 4 months. This design up to 85
t/h, pressure up to 45kg/cm2, efficiency may be arranged accordingly to needs. The horizontal
arrangement allows several jobs to be done at same time whilst low height becomes a help for
seismic regions.
Pic 8: A single pass bank 150t/h boiler proposal that might be interesting for cogen.
