HISTORY AND INFORMATION
The Chevrolet Cruze is an automobile produced by the
American manufacturer General Motors (GM), spanning two unrelated
models. Underjoint venture with GM, Suzuki in Japan manufactured the
original iteration, a subcompact hatchback, between 2001 and 2008.
Since 2008, the "Cruze" nameplate has referred to a
globally developed, designed, and manufactured four-
door compact sedan, complemented by a five-door hatchback body
variant from 2011.
Badged Holden Cruze in Australasia and Daewoo Lacetti
Premiere (from 2008 to 2011) in South Korea, the new generation
model does not serve as a replacement for its Suzuki-derived
predecessor.
Manufactured by Suzuki in Japan, GM revealed the
production Chevrolet Cruze in October 2001, with Japanese sales
commencing the following month. The Cruze was also sold in
Australasia from 2002 through to 2006 as the Holden Cruze.

Instead, it replaces two other compact models:
the Daewoo Lacetti sold internationally under various titles, and the
North American-specific Chevrolet Cobalt. GM phased out production
of the Cobalt and its badge engineered counterpart, the Pontiac G5 in
2010, as the manufacturing of the Chevrolet Cruze in the United States
commenced.

MARKET PERFORMANCE

General motors thinks a sizable segment of U.S. car buyers
want more than just fuel economy from a diesel engine, making the
business case for an oil-burner in the Chevrolet Cruze when the
nameplate already has the high-mileage Eco variant in the market.

It's hard not to take a shine to the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze
Diesel. Big-torque performance and hybrid-baiting efficiency is an
alluring combination, while the Cruze's intrinsic goodness continues to
impress three years after its launch.
For now, Volkswagen has to be curiously looking over its
shoulder at its new competitor, and for good reason. The Cruze has
more horsepower (151 hp to 140 hp), more torque (264 to 236) and
better highway fuel economy (46 mpg to 42 mpg).
And as a final kicker, the Cruze is less expensive, too. At
$25,695, the Cruze Diesel undercuts the automatic-transmission
Volkswagen Jetta TDI by about 500 bucks. Not a huge difference, but
enough to make it worth giving the Chevy a look if all the rest of its
advantages weren't enough to convince you already.
Chevrolet Cruze has turned around the fortunes for General
Motors India along with the Beat and the Spark. The Cruze has been
around for long now and has sold handsomely since its launch in 2009.
The Chevrolet Cruze has been a dominating model in the segment and
a strong performer too. The recent advent of new car launches in the
segment has forced General Motors to get a mid-life facelift for the
Cruze. The facelift is more technically and less cosmetic on the 2012
Chevrolet Cruze.
FUTURE EXPECATIONS

Plans call for the Cruze diesel coming in 2013 to achieve
fuel economy in the range of 50 mpg (4.7 L/100 km), sources at the
auto maker tell Wards.
GM also confirms the diesel engine planned for the Cruze
is the 2.0L currently on sale in Europe. Wards first reported GMs plans
for a diesel-powered passenger car last year.
The auto maker already markets the Cruze Eco, a
gasoline variant of the popular compact car achieving through mostly
aerodynamic and transmission tweaks 42 mpg (5.6 L/100 km) on the
highway, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
