Progression Raiding Guild Model Compendium

Rank Structure:
Guild Master
Banker
Recruitment Officer
Raid Leader
Team Leader
Authenticated Raider
Raider
Trial
Alt / Member

Note: The reason for authentication ranks within the guild rank structure is to serve as a limiter for guild
bank access; the lower ranks having less access than authenticated ranks. This is to help ensure bank
security in the event an account without an authenticator is hacked, since all raiders have access to
the bank for raid consumables, item enhancements and materials.
Note: While all players ranked Raider and above have invite powers, only 3 members have the power to
promote: the Guild Master, Recruitment Officer and the Raid Leader. The reason for this is to eliminate
confusion amongst guild members as to who is who and what their role/status is within the guild.

Rank Responsibilities:
To ensure the highest rate of success of the decided goals an outline of all rank responsibilities are
presented here.
Guild Master Defined: How people see a guild master
A guild master is the leader of a group of people brought together with a common goal. The guild
master is in control of all guild administrative functions within the game, in control of the overall
direction of the guild and tone of the guild atmosphere. As the leader, a guild master is directly
accountable for the guilds successes and failures.

Responsibilities Defined: What people expect of their guild master
1. Communicate The number one priority as a guild master is to lead and having strong
communication skills are required to succeed at this task. Appoint roles, delegate
responsibilities, constantly develop and build up your guild as it evolves. Take the time to talk to
your appointed leaders and let them know what is expected of them.
2. Set the Tone the attitude and overall atmosphere of the guild comes from its leader.
Maintaining a positive attitude amongst your members is the key when building a happy and
vibrant social guild atmosphere.
3. Setting Standards in order for the guild to achieve its goals, standards must be clearly outlined
and upheld by its leader. Additionally, providing and maintaining a medium by which the guild
members can access, reference, request and offer feedback on these standards is necessary.
I.e.: guild website, VOIP client server.
4. Follow-up it is the leaders responsibility to consistently ensure that what must be done is
actually getting done. If a website needs maintenance, media updates, recruitment, finances,
etc. Follow up with the people in charge of these responsibilities and make sure the job is
getting done. Additionally, providing solutions to problem areas where tasks are not being
completed.
5. Feedback - It is the leaders responsibility to constantly be asking for and offering feedback on
progress and performance. Taking the time to praise, discuss, correct and reprimand players
based on their performance and development as well as the guilds progress as a whole is
essential to building a winning team and keeping your team members in guild! (Remember: this
does not exclude the guild master. He needs our critical feedback and positive reinforcement.)
Note: being a raider is not a requisite to managing a guild, it just happens that way most of the time

Banker Defined:
The Banker is a high ranking player within the guild, and rightly so! They are in control of all guild
finances. This position is not to be taken lightly. The costs involved in progression raiding are extensive,
averaging 50-100k per week in past expansions. It is the responsibility of the Banker to find creative
methods of generating income for the guild to compensate for the mass usage of raid consumables and
repairs so that the raiders can focus on progression and not farming raid mats.

Banker Responsibilities Defined:
1. Coordinate with the Guild Master to control the usage of guild bank repairs.
2. Coordinate with the Raid Leader for the selling of unneeded raid BoE drop items and the selling
of raid spots to PuGs during farm content.
3. Coordinate with the Team Leaders to ensure that weekly guild functions which generate income
directly for the bank are being done consistently.
4. Have characters available with all relevant professions for processing raw materials to generate
raid consumables.
5. Be creative with the resources available to you. Capitalize on the addons available to you for
maximizing profession, mail and auction house utility and efficiency. Discern and utilize the
players in guild who have additional materials or income available.

Recruitment Officer Defined:
The recruitment officer is an integral part of the guild, particularly in regards to raiding, because without
him our roster would be quite bare. The recruitment officer works hand-in-hand with the other leaders
in the guild to build a team based on current progression needs.
Recruitment Officer Responsibilities:
1. The development and maintenance of recruitment protocols based on the current guild model
set forth by the guild master, game related resources(i.e.: warcraftlogs, EJ forums) and game
content(i.e.: current expansion, raid tier & pvp season).
2. The consistent upkeep of recruitment media (i.e.: battle.net forum recruitment posts, guild
website recruitment forms, youtube channel, twitter, twitch, if applicable, etc.)
3. The application of recruitment protocols and the induction of new recruits into the guild
including a guided tour of the inner workings of our guild model.
4. Responsible for all Trial rank players, ensuring they are raid ready (i.e.: gear check, raid
knowledge check, etc.) and for guild notes of all guild members ensuring they accurately display
relevant information.
5. Maintaining a strong working knowledge of all classes, useful interface add-ons, current
progression mechanics, current raid compositions and current game related resource links.

Raid Leader Defined:
The raid leader is our guide. If the guild master is our host, then the raid leader is undoubtedly our
maitred; simultaneously ensuring that people are happy and that they are where they are supposed to
be when they are supposed to be there doing what they are supposed to be doing within the raid
environment. We look to him for direction and delegation and expect it in a well-mannered, clear and
concise delivery laced with infinite patience and a firm hand all at once; all the while bearing the
criticism of his peers. This role is not for the faint of heart!
Raid Leader Responsibilities:
1. Ensuring the consistency of our raid schedule, building the raid group, beginning and ending on
time and maintaining as close to 100% attendance as possible. (it is understood that people
have lives outside of the game but this position requires an exceptional amount of dedication
and consistent availability)
2. Being the Voice of the Raid - maintaining a strong, positive and solution oriented atmosphere
within the raid group. (this requires a good deal of charisma and a good headset)
3. Maintaining a very strong working knowledge of all current raid mechanics, class abilities, useful
interface add-ons, and game related resources.
4. Leading the raid: (this requires a good deal of charisma and a good headset)
a. ensuring mechanics are understood and followed
b. calling out timers/cool downs etc. as needed or delegating it
c. ensuring the raid is ready for each attempt i.e.: consumables/ready check etc
d. ensuring speedy recovery on failed attempts
e. managing the loot system
f. diffusing tension/conflicts
g. giving and taking critical feedback and making adjustments to raid composition or
tactics on the fly
5. Utilizing Other Leaders:
a. conferring with your team leaders to quickly resolve issues in raid on the fly
b. conferring with the recruiting officer for raid roster needs
c. conferring with guild master on raid related policies, direction and progression

Team Leader Defined:
While the above ranks hold a high degree of responsibility, mostly administrative type functions that
make the guild/raid run, the Team Leader is the workhorse of the progression team and has extensive
duties to perform inside and outside of the raid.
A team leader is an Auth. Raider who already adheres to the raider model, has consistently shown
exceptional performance within the raid environment, is genuinely interested in seeing others around
him succeed and is always willing to help if and when needed. As a team leader you are the liaison
between the raid leader and the problems that are occurring within your scope. Simply put, the raid
leader cant have eyes everywhere and when something goes wrong he needs fast and accurate input
on the problem so he can make a call. You are the solution soldier. Team leaders have specific groups
they pay attention to and, thanks to their fantastic raid awareness, help their respective groups perform
more effectively. Typical groups consist of tanks, melee dps, ranged dps and healers.
Team Leader Responsibilities:
1. Maintaining exceptional knowledge of your class and a strong working knowledge of relative
classes to your own (i.e.: casters, healers, melee and/or tanks), useful interface add-ons, current
progression mechanics, current raid compositions and current game related resource links.
2. Maintaining exceptional raid awareness and having a comprehensive understanding of how your
class abilities correlate with raid mechanics (i.e.: when and how to use
defensive/offensive/utility cool downs and abilities)
3. Having enough attention to detail to recognize new, unknown or failed raid mechanics when
they occur around you and assisting the raid leader in informing the raid and creating a solution.
4. Paying attention to the players near to you. Asking why they do what they do, if what theyre
doing is best or at least viable, and offering your knowledge and suggestions to aid group
success (this is peer to peer accountability)
5. Assisting in the maintenance of raid moral and reinforcing peer to peer accountability
6. Research & Development: staying on the cutting edge of progression related information, beta
testing, developing/adopting raid encounter strategies, contributing to and or reading
class/encounter reviews and guides and enthusiastically sharing this information with your raid
team members.
7. Coaching:
a. Inside Raid: addressing mistakes and helping your focus group perform better on the fly
b. Outside Raid: reviewing logs in detail with your team and helping them maximize their
performance

Raider and Authenticated Raider Defined:
A raider is the most important asset of the raid group. Without them, nothing happens no matter how
well lead and organized a team is. But the pressure is on. You have to be raid ready and eager to
perform or we simply do not have room for you on the roster.
As stated above, the only difference between Raider and Auth. Raider rank is less or more limited bank
access. This is a security feature implemented by Blizzard and we are taking advantage of it because our
guild bank stocks high value raid materials for the benefit of the raid. This feature prevents any raid
member without an authenticator from being hacked and stealing gross amounts of valuables from
the guild bank.
(Note: Currently all raid related materials i.e.: gems, enchants, consumables etc. are provided by the
guild bank at no cost to the raider and they are freely accessible to each raid member to withdraw at
their leisure for the benefit of the raid)
Raider and Authenticated Raider Responsibilities:
1. Know your class inside and out. Be constantly looking for ways to improve and comparing your
character and your performance, i.e. logs, to the top players around the world. (this takes time
outside of raid to accomplish so please plan for it)
2. Know the raid mechanics inside and out. Failure at raid mechanics is letting 24 other peoples
hard work go to waste. Thats on you! (this takes time outside of raid to accomplish so please
plan for it)
3. Be available and be consistent. Know the raid times and be on time. Currently our raid times
are fairly casual and easy to meet. Although we understand that real life > game life, if you cant
make it consistently then dont apply for the position.
4. Know what your resources are and use them. The leaders in guild want to help set you up for
success. Please use them. Find out what add-ons you need. Take the extra time to customize
and tweak your interface. Know what game related resource websites are current and take the
time to read them.
5. Be passionate about what you do and have a goal. We cant stress this enough. If youre not
happy with what youre doing with your game time then that is a serious problem for our raid.
Please take the time to sort it out. Define what fun to you is and what you want to accomplish
with your time.

Trial Rank Defined:
A trial member is a player who has been recruited by our recruitment officer with the intention of being
a raider. This is a tough time for any player as they are scrutinized by a group of players often unfamiliar
to them. Trial periods vary and are mostly based on performance.
Trial Responsibilities:
All Trial responsibilities mirror that of a Raider.

Member Rank Defined:
Member is generally a social rank. Members are players who are here to enjoy the atmosphere the
guild has to offer and are otherwise not able, interested or cannot attend regular raid progression.
Member Responsibilities:
General etiquette applies, as with all ranks within the guild. Although Members are not required to
perform in any way for the guild we do require that they uphold the integrity of our guild name and act
in a mature manner while representing the guild. Please direct any inquiries to a player in a leadership
role.
Applications:

Application formats and questionnaires are going to change over time based on the current game
content and current guild recruitment needs. It is the responsibility of the recruitment officer to
produce these protocols based on the current guild model as set forth by the guild master. However
there are several more generic bits of information we are always going to want to know about an
applicant.
