Microstrip Patch Antenna With Defected Ground Structure & Offset Feed in The Field of Communication

This document summarizes the design and simulation of a microstrip patch antenna with a defected ground structure (DGS) and offset feed to improve performance. Three designs were analyzed: 1) An initial design with no slots in the ground plane had a dual band operation at 2.41-2.45 GHz and 4.7-5 GHz. 2) Adding triple slots to the ground plane improved the bandwidth to 11.5-12.5% and 13-14%. 3) A final design with pentagonal slots in the ground plane is discussed but not summarized. The designs were simulated in HFSS to analyze return loss and radiation patterns, showing the DGS and offset feed techniques
