Error 25004: The product key you entered cannot be used on this machine. This is most likely due to
previous Office 2010 trials being installed. System error: <hresult>
The key you are currently trying to install with, is an Office Professional Plus Trial key. A machine will
allow one Professional Plus Trial key installed on it ever. Meaning you can install a trial on a machine,
used it for some time, uninstall Office. When you go back to the Microsoft website and get a new key,
the second installation will be rejected with the above error message.
If this is not how you ran into the situation, please let us know the exact System error: <hresult> in
the above error message.

I'm having the same issue on a brand new Dell studio XPS 64 bit. It's never had Office installed, I've
followed the instructions shown here http://www.programimi.com/2010/04/26/fixproblems
upgradingoffice2010betatortmfinalrelease/ which have apparently fixed a lot of peoples issues,
but I'm having no joy!

Has anyone got another fix for this please!!!!!

I have the exact same error. However I installed Office Professional Plus 2010 14.0.4730.1010 from
Technet thursday last week, then uninstalled it as I thought the install file had errors. I then
downloaded Another trial but then with a different serial but it won't let me install. I did a complete
purge of the entire system all office files except for HKLM/software/microsoft/office which cannot
be deleted. I just want to know if there is a way to find that original trial key cuase i have like 20+ left.

FYI, I dont have any office folder in Program files nor in Registry. Did a sweep with CCleaner as well,
no luck!
I really wanted to know whether there is any option to regenerate that trial key from the Microsoft
downloads section It looks like a bunch of keys generated during a particular period has caused the
issue... Just guessin...

Maybe they consider the beta itself as a "trial version"?

Yes, this problem needs an answer, it will not just go away. I am sitting here a fully paid and
registered user of Office 2007 who was testing Office 2010 BETA without any version of Office now
because Microsoft couldn't handle an upgrade, or more accurately because their COPY PROTECTION
is BREAKING THINGS. Arrgggg.

I have a clean installation of windows 7 ult /32 and installed the demo. I had a small problem so i
removed and wanted to install it again. All I get is the shitty error. I have erased everything in the
registry that has "office" on it, erased the temp etc. Still to no avail.
I feel like we are being ignored here a little. Kind of reminds me of MSoft's standards in the 90's. Is it
really so difficult to allow setup to reenter a key as long as the first one hasn't expired? Even a
immature programmer like myself could handle that.

So please give us a solution that works

Being ignored more than a little. This thread was started on May 28 and it's almost a MONTH LATER.
I guess the Microsoft answer is that you should just buy the product and once you are dealing with a
production code instead of a trial code it will "probably" work. No thanks let's get this working as
promised right now.

Tried all the suggestions running fixit to remove installation, deleting temp files, removing registry
entries no luck. Could trial rely on some hidden file that is checked by MS installer that is not
removed by "fixit"? Also MS please stop sending me emails asking about how my trial is going.

The comment in this thread that is marked as the answer ISN'T the answer. It is suggesting that a
previous copy of Office 2010 Professional Plus Trial was installed, removed and then reinstalled. For
myself it was the BETA of 2010 then the trial of the release version that isn't working. For others they
are getting this error message even on "new" installs. This thread needs to be marked unanswered
and get some MS attention.

How is this error message even possible with Office 2010? There were NO PREVIOUS Office 2010

Please try running Office rearm:

http://technet.microsoft.com/enus/library/ee624357.aspx#section4

The easiest way to do it is to open an elevated command prompt, then go to the folder:

C:\%Program Files%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform\

This will be in the "Program Files x86" folder if you're running 32bit Office on 64bit Windows. If
you saved to another drive other than C, then use the correct drive letter.
This will allow you a grace period to run the Office trial.

I have a similar problem. I get the install error when trying to install software purchased from
Microsoft via Digital River. The problem started for me when I uninstalled office 2010 from the "D"
drive, backed up all of my files and deleted the "D" partition. I then merged the free space with my
"C" drive and now I can not reinstall. i have tried every step here multiple times as well as a few
others in various forums from Microsoft... Please Help.

Are you running 32bit Office on 64bit Windows? You may want to check the "C:\Program Files

I Have the same issue as everybody I mean the error 25004

I was running Windows 7 w/o office
I installed the trial version downloaded from your site and I used the product key I received in an
email from Microsoft. The installation froze after a while.
I had to reboot the PC. I tried a second install and at the end, I received the fatal "Error 25004"
What's next step, please ?

A very tired user

1. try using http://www.askvg.com/removeproductkeyofmicrosoftofficexp20032007and2010

usingofficekeyremover/ this is not anything illegal and then try installing office
2. Try uploading your documents to skydrive and using the built in editor to edit your office
documents if you are desperate to do your projects and they are due the next day
3. try using better, free software that does NOT require you to go through copy protection, like Open
Office THIS IS NOT AN AD, I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH THEM.
4. Microsoft is getting on my nerves, lol!

Here it goes, : For most software, trials can only be installed one time on a device.
I get that information at http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/conversation.aspx by writing " The
product key you entered cannot be used on this machine " then choose Trial Products
Hope this will help you, but I still don't know how to fix it T_T someone help me too LOL :

I may be able to help with those of you who are unable to delete
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office].Thereasonyouareunabletodeleteitisbecauseregistrykeys
aresubjecttopermissions.Permissionsaresecuritypolicysettingsthatrestrictusersfromcertainoperations.

0

NOTE: Backup your registry or create a System Restore Point before proceeding further
Open Registry Editor regedit.exe and navigate to the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office key and rightclick Office and select
Permissions
A Security tab will open with a list of users or groups who have been specified access privileges.
Without writing a dissertation on permissions, I will attempt to make this easy.
Our goal here is to delete the Office key, so we need to grant YOU your user name Full Control
This is simple if the checkboxes are not disabled, which they are so here is how you break the
inherited permissions:
Click the line containing your user name and click the Advanced button. At the bottom of the new
window will be a checkbox Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent . Clear the
checkbox. It will ask you if you are sure you want to remove inheritable permissions, choose yes and
replace the inherited permissions with explicit permissions because the key will be deleted after
we are done.
It may take a few seconds to process the permissions, then click OK to return to the Security tab and
checkmark the box Full Control and Allow then click OK to return to the main Registry Editor
window. Then you will be able to delete the Office key.
My hypothesis is that this process will allow you to reinstall your copy of OFFICE, if you still desire to
do so.
On another note, I virtualize my entire system with VMWare Workstation when I install beta software
or other software I know I am going to uninstall later. Oracle also provides VirtualBox free of charge
which also allows you to virtualize the software you are installing, so that the installation does not
actually change your true registry. The sandbox you create maintains the changes the beta software
thinks it has created. When you are done with the software, you merely delete the sandbox and it is
as if you never installed it in the first place. I highly recommend sandboxing beta software or
anything else you download off the Internet that is not verified with a certificate issued by a
trusted certificate authority. A sandbox will isolate viruses and other malware, protecting your
true computer system. I actually prefer this method above those performancesapping
resident antivirus programs.
Good luck and let me know if this works for you or if you have found another solution to your
problem.

if you are getting Error 25004 then The product key you entered cannot be used on that machine.
This is most likely due to previous Office 2010 trials being installed.

If this is not how you ran into the situation, please let us know the exact System error: <hresult> in
the above error message

I downloaded microsoft office professional free trial awhile back, then skipped to the student edition
when the professional free trial ended.
I have tried "everything" in my humanly power "know hows" to get rid of the professional edition and
it will NOT be deleted from my laptop.any ideas?
I downloaded the business edition 2 weeks ago after the student free trial edition ended.now here's
the thing: after downloading the business edition, it started extracting the items needed for
powerpoint, word, excel, etc.i opened up word to test it out to see if it was offically download,it was. 10
mins later i downloaded "visio" free trial for my schooling.when download, visio asked if i wanted to
either switch, convert or do soemthing with my all files or something like that? i thought about it,and
clicked yes.BIG mistake. My microsoft office business free trial vanished from my laptop.I
redownloaded microsoft office business 2010 free trial again 47 times there after and every time i do
that it will not open or run.i keep getting error reports o send like this one, repeatively.
C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\SetupExe201012051317566C0.log
i've tried everything to get that free trial back and nothing works.I've done a system restore 5
times, created a new email address when logging into windows for downloading the free trial, tried
downloading it from another website other than my schooling website, deleted ANY microsoft office
files of any sort on my laptop period, but nothing works.
people,i would greatly appreciate it someone has the key secret to unistalling the profesisonal edition
from my laptop for good and getting the business edition downlaoded back unto my laptop like
once before.
do i need a patch package installed in order to get it back? do i need any other tools to download so
i can have the free trial again? i think my laptop picks up on the key product number from the very
first business free trial download and won't let me have it again regardless me only having the
business edition for 1030 mins.
any help, good help will help alot.

I've tried everything. I went from Office 2007 Enterprise college academic and bought Office 2010
Home and Student. The installer crashed halfway through and did not shut down properly. I tried
again and it worked, until I got to this same error. Now Office 2007 is broken too, so I have no Office
at all on my computer, and I am unable to reinstall 2007 or 2010! This is ridiculous! Because I paid to
upgrade, I now have NO Office running at all.

Gatinho79 is right, you can get free technical support if you purchased an upgrade. It's people who
are trying to install the trail version and getting stuck that a have no solution b cant call microsoft
for help!
Why have a trial version when everyone cant trial it?
The problem seems to occur between 2007 and 2010. Anyone who has installed 07 and then removes
it and tries to install office 2010 this problem occurs.
Argghh!
Still waiting for a fix! Anyone???

Hey guys, I'm working on finding a solution to the installing and reinstalling of microsoft office
2010.I recently downloaded the home edition and professional edition. The home edition uninstalled
w/o any issues whereas the professional wouldn't.I tried everything in my humanly power to the best
of computer knowledge i could possibly use, nothing worked.someone on here posted back to my
repsonse and said to try revo unistall pro.I downloaded it,for free, and used it.It worked! It unistalled
the pro edition like tri was noones business and cleaned up any leftover files belonging to it.Itw as
very easy to download,to use,and work with. For anyone wanting to retry the trial versions again, your
best bet is downloading any microsoft office 2010 of any version again is to erase the original
downlaod from your computer registry and then try dowloading it.I,however,do not know how to do
this, yet.I'm not well equipped or familiar with that area right now.someone mentioned it back to me
on here in a post to do this, which is also the same person that advised me to downlaod revo unistall
pro to remove the professional edition, and it worked like a charm. Over the past few days I have been
trying to redownload any latest version of office whether it's 2007 or 2010.I can go as far as having it
doanloaded, but when it up loads or extracts the files, that's where the error keeps popping up
"microsoft has encountered an error and needs to close". I downloaded the home edition awhile back
but 30 mins after i literally had it on my laptop,i was downloading the free trial for visio for my
schooling. While visio was being installed a small rectangle box opened up and aske dme if i either
wanted to switch, move or extract files from micrsoft office or something like that.I can't remember
exactly what ti asked, but after thinking about it for a mintue,i finall ckicled yes.BIG NO NO! When I
did that it completely erased microsoft office from my laptop.2 months worth of free microsoft trial
version down the drain in a matter of 20 mintues of usage. I had been trying ever since to get it
back, but nothign helped.I even called microsoft for extended help and they simply said to re
dwownload it again, which i did do like 10 times over and over, nothing worked. I've been trying to get
it back over the past few days.nothing works.i would like what error it is that it keeps giving me or
what the genuine issue is.

i am glad that i could help at least one person, guess i was the revo recommending guy; but since i
didnt remove it withou revo i cant reinstall it anyways. on the whole web jus one guy says he solved
that problem by cleaning up registry with ccleaner. Doesnt work either for me. Funny is that you
called microsoft and they recommended you to redownload again lol. Maybe someone knows
somebody working at microsoft and could ask which freaky leftover file is responsible for that error
25004. Like i said even on my desktop pc i never had any trial of office 2010 jus office 2007 and same
error 25004 occurs all too freaky to me cause like we see above even buying the upgrade doesnt
solve this error. Well many thx in advance for the person who finds the solution to this problem.

*sigh* Anyone with a solution please? Does anyone have a friend at Microsoft who can bypass their
helpdesk and find a solution? Geez.
This is so frustrating. After doing more research, I think the error comes up has to do with registry
issues. I used regcure and it found so many registry issues with my laptop. I'm scared if I fix all it will
clean out my laptop and with no backups loose my data.
Regcure you have to buy too!
I'll surf around for free registry cleaners and see how it goes!!
I'm still trying to get office 2010 home and student installed!

well final solution cause this all here lasts too long. Jus format your machine cause this works 100%
altough i read some statements of guy who stil had the problem and then with office toolkit make a
backup so that you can install again when you want and where you want without downloading
hundreds of things and wasting time with studying software design writing a tesis about registry
entries. Its a shame that a test version cant be tested cause first great bug comes with installing it!!
So again forget all your sandboxing tricks, registry cleaners, manually registry cleaning, office cleaning
and fix and uninstall tools, win 7 clean boot and all of that!!!!!!!
