President Ramon Magsaysay is not only famous for being the seventh president of the Republic
of the Philippines, but he also became a great mechanical engineer. He initially entered a premedical course in the University of the Philippines in 1927, but studied engineering while
working as a chauffeur to support himself. He worked as an automobile mechanic in a bus
company (florida) and shop superintendent.
Former Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, Jesse Manalastas Robredo who was
bestowed the 2000 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service studied an undergraduate
course of Industrial Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the De La Salle
University. He worked for San Miguel Corporation and Magnolia Ice cream during his early
career.
Bayani Fernando was the former MMDA chairman and Marikina Mayor who graduated as a
Mechanical Engineer in Mapua Institute of Technology. He was the founder of BF group of
Companies that based its business in the ideals of manufacturing, steel, real estate and
construction businesses before entering politics.

Ramon S. Ang is a graduate of Far Eastern University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Angs efforts made it possible for San Miguel Corporation to diversify from being a beer giant
into a conglomerate with huge investments on other fields. Currently, Beer, Food and other
beverages constitute about 20 percent of San Miguels total business. He is now considered as a
business tycoon and successful engineer.

The first president of the Philippine National Oil Company or PNOC, Geronimo Z. Velasco is a
mechanical engineer and business-construction tycoon who was the chairman of Republic Glass
Holdings Corp that used to own the pioneer manufacturing factory that attends to the 70% of
Philippines glass requirements for constructions.

The Filipino Inventor and renowned Mechanical engineer, Eduardo San Juan (aka The Space
Junkman) worked on the team that invented the Lunar Rover or Moon Buggy. Eduardo San Juan
is considered the primary designer of the Lunar Rover. San Juan was also the designer for the
Articulated Wheel System. Prior, to the Apollo Program, Eduardo San Juan worked on the
Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).

Working with NASA was a dream come true for Cebuano Codina who dreamt of a career in
aerospace program which eventually led him to take Mechanical Engineering as his
undergraduate course. After he graduated in 1964, he worked with several companies in the
Philippines until he migrated with his family to the US in 1969. He worked for several companies
in the US and when his family moved to Texas, he applied for a job with Ford Aerospace, a
NASA contractor.
