MOOC's: The future is global education.

New technologies have developed quickly in the last thirty years and with them the society
has also developed. The way we interrelate and our daily life is strongly influenced by
current technologies: computers, tablets, cell phones and of course the Internet.
The education has also undoubtedly undergone changes thank to these tools. We search
information for tasks or to communicate with peers and teachers with these tools, the first
reference source is the internet. Everything goes to Google.
In this sense, education systems around the world have had to adapt to this technological
revolution. International collaboration and the phenomenon of globalization have been the
first and most important drivers of new models and paradigms, distance education is a
clear example. It is now possible to study a University career without move and with a
completely flexible schedules, through a computer with a virtual platform designed for this
purpose.
New theories that this change has generated argue that the best way to improvement
knowledge is through the creation of nodes or research sources. Knowledge and learning
are developed with the plurality of opinions and constant updating of information we have
at our disposal. Under these assumptions the firsts MOOC's are generated.
With this, universities and institutions seeking to expand their role as facilitators of
knowledge. But also under a belief that collaboration among students from such diverse
characteristics (different nationalities, beliefs, age, etc.) can improve the knowledge of how
much wider than in a classical model of education.
Since 2008 that began those massive open and on line courses, thanks to George and
Stephen Downes Simiens, (theyre the first to teach a course like this) a large number of
countries, enterprises and Universities of international recognition have been interested in
developing courses under this format. Achieving bring education to everyone.
Many questions arise about this new model. The first question is how can the universities
be sure that the student performs the necessary learning process to earn a certificate?
The reality is that its not possible to know it; however, it is a dilemma that all educational
systems face, and no true foundation. The role of Universities and educational institutions

is facilitate the knowledge and skills of student and has no certain way to force him to be
honest with their knowledge, this is an issue that applies only to student, is he who cant
deceive himself, must be aware that its an injury only to himself.
In conclusion, for seven years there are still many questions unanswered and a long road
ahead for MOOC's, but I think it is an opportunity that all people willing to overcome (in all
senses) deserves.
Make available to ours hands the opportunity to learn as much as we want is imperative
for today's society. With all the tools available should expand the frontiers of education and
raise levels of education of the global population. It's not about the awards and certificates
(at least in my case) but by the knowledge itself and the thousands of opportunities
provided. Learn something new every day its improve our human quality every day and
here I am a firm believer.
