Reported Speech A - Levels

Reported speech is used to repeat what someone said without using their exact words. There are three main changes made in reported speech: 1) pronouns are changed to reflect different references over time, 2) verbs are backshifted to past tense, and 3) time and place expressions are altered to reflect the new context. Common reporting verbs include "said" for statements and "asked" for questions. Questions and commands also undergo changes in word order and punctuation when reported. More practice is needed to fully understand transforming direct to reported speech.
