BEING A MUSICIAN FOR MOST OF MY LIFE, IT WAS STRESSED UPON ME FROM A
YOUNG AGE THE IMPORTANCE OF WORKING AS A TEAM, WHETHER IN A SMALL
GROUP OR AN 80 PIECE ORCHESTRA. ON A PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENT WITH THE
PHILARMONIA OF THE NATIONS I FOUND MYSELF WORKING WITH OVER 30
DIFFERENT NATIONALITIES GOING ON TOUR AROUND EUROPE FOR UP TO 4
MONTHS AT A TIME. COMMUNICATION WAS VERY IMPORTANT ON THIS
EMPLOYMENT AND THIS HELPED ME TO SETTLE EASILY INTO THE COMMUNITY LIFE
YOU FIND AMONG CREW ON A SHIP.
ON RETURN TO IRELAND I SOON BEGAN TEACHING CHILDREN AND QUICKLY HAD A
GREAT AFFINITY FOR IT. I ENJOYED THE CHALLENGES OF FINDING DIFFERENT
TECHNIQUES FOR TEACHING EACH PUPIL AS THE LEARNING PROCESS WAS OFTEN
DIFFERENT FOR EACH CHILD. HELPING TO BUILD SELF CONFIDENCE IN CHILDREN
IS SOMETHING I FIND VERY IMPORTANT AND CANNOT BE UNDERESTIMATED.
