INTRODUCTION
This report gives information on topic about manufacturing of MCB boards. A MCB has
three parts
1. Inner part
2. Outer part
3. Box
In this report we will study about the manufacturing of box part of MCB. Various
manufacturing operations like cutting, bending, blanking is done on power press machines to
produce the box. After performing various operations on box some labor work and welding is
done on the box to finish it and remove or minimize the discrepancy. There are various types
of power press available to produce the desired part. The power presses available in the
manufacturing unit are described in the previous reports.
Various operations like cutting, drilling, bending, grinding and welding is used to produce the
desired box. After the production of box it is send for subsequent processing like cleaning,
painting and packing at the shahdara plant located in New Delhi.
Here the aim of the work is to study about the processes occurring in the manufacturing unit,
time consumed in their manufacturing, the material required and how to improve the
production.
The work presented in this report will give us a picture of production unit of the industry and
will highlight the problems which have a serious impact on the production.
After punching the holes it goes for cutting. Cutting operation is accomplished by means of a
cutting die which has a triangle shaped iron metal attached to it for cutting purpose. The
picture of die is shown below.
It is used to cut triangular parts from the sheet. The size of triangle is base with 25mm and
height 15mm. The cutting sheet is shown below with the waste scrap.

After cutting it is passed for bending. Bending is done on two edges sides with bending
height of 15mm. after bending it is send for further processing. Below is picture showing the
bending at sides.
After bending it is send for making foundation slot on both sides. The foundation slot is cut
with a special kind of die. The die and the slot are shown below.
The box is created and is send for subsequent processing like welding, grinding if required,
drilling for making threaded holes. Grinding is done to increase the lubrication, shine to make
the part smooth. Grinding is done afterwards. Below is picture showing this.
After grinding drilling is done to insert the holes in the box, drilling is done with help of
drilling machine. Holes are drilled for fitting it with screws afterwards. Below is a picture
showing this.
There are two drills located in the industry. Their sizes are
1. Tap size M3.05, Major dia. 3.0mm
2. Tap size M4.07, Major dia. 4.0mm

After drilling the box is send for further processing like spot welding. Spot welding is a
process in which contacting metal surfaces are joined by heat obtained from resistance to
electric current. Spot welding is typically used when welding particular types of sheet metal,
welded wire mesh or wire mesh. There are two spot welding machines in the unit SW1 and
SW2.
The L-shaped metal hangers are welded to the box using spot welding. Below is a picture
showing this.
After inserting the L-shaped hangers now 2 straight plates with L-shaped hangers are inserted
to cover the box. Below picture show this.
After inserting the plates the box is made complete and stored rom where the bunch of boxes
are transferred to the shahdara plant, Delhi for subsequent post processing operations like
finishing and painting and packaging.
CONCLUSIONS
In this section we have learnt about the manufacturing of box part of MCB board. We have
learnt about the various processes that are required in production of box part in MCB board.
In the upcoming reports we would learn and study about the problems that the industry is
facing and define them and finding out the solutions and various ways to improve them.
