Modern Control Theory Syllabus

The document outlines the units of study for a course on Modern Control Theory. Unit I covers state variable description and solution of state equations for linear continuous time systems. Unit II discusses controllability, observability, and their properties. Unit III describes designing state feedback controllers and state observers like Kalman filters. Unit IV introduces nonlinear system analysis using describing functions and phase plane analysis. Unit V focuses on stability analysis using Lyapunov's stability theorems for linear and nonlinear autonomous systems. The course will use two textbooks and two reference books on control systems engineering and modern control theory.
