1MAIN MENU AND DISPLAY WINDOWS
used for display ond editing purposes — ond for the selection of vorious routines.
The main display window in the top holf of the screen, is used for editing somples, ond the two
amoller windows below, are used to monitor the input waveforms for each channel, These two
‘windows con ba replaced by other displays and menus whan alternative routines are required,
Technosound Turbo uses @ sub-menu syatem which ia controlled from the eight mein buttons
on the fight hand side of the menu —
EDIT - LOOP — DISK — SYSTEM - F-X — EXTRA - ECHO - SYNTH
ry selecting each butten in turn, sterting with LOOP, and you will see @ new menu scroll olong ot
the bottom ef the screen,
You ore now in o position to load o sample and explore the other functions.
LOADING A SAMPLE
Select the DISK menu ond press the IFF lood button —

To load the sample simply press “return” or click on the O.K box.
Ht you wish to exit the file selection process, without loading, simply press cancel
‘Once the somple has been loaded, the window will revert back to o twin channel oscilloscope, and
the sample waveform willbe displayed in the main window. The space occupied by the waveform wil

MAGNIFYING THE SAMPLE
You will now need ta expond the display until the waveform runs the full langth of the window. In
‘order to ochieve this, position the mouse arrow ot the right hand end of the waveform, and click on
the right hand button of the mouse. Hold the button down, ond you will see Pointer 2 jump across to

THE POINTERS
When you create loops and mix samples, you will need to section off areas of the waveform very
accurately. Position the two pointers 0 few inches apart, in the centre of the screen, so that roughly
‘one third of the somple is sectioned off, The size of the section is shown under “AREA SIZE", on
the pointer memory locations are shown on the left
Below Pointer“1 indicator, you will see three orrows, which control the left hond button. Select the
left ond right-buttons in turn, in order to move the pointer by one byte at a time,
2Reset the pointer to the edge of the window by pressing the outside arrow — [
Repeat the procedure with the right hand pointer, which is controlled by the arrows on the right
Experiment with the somple by sectioning off different parts of the waveform and playing them
back, using the. various commands previously mentioned. You will observe thot only the Section

Try expanding the picture several times using the MAGNIFY button. Reposition the pointers at each
stage ond observe the change in oreo size.

Mognify part of the sample again and reposition the two pointers somewhere near the centre.
This time select the FULL button - = this will reset the pointers to the stort and end

Finolly clear the sample from memory using the WIPE button ~
THE ZOOM DISPLAY
A very useful feature of the aystem is the ZOOM disploy facility Lood in the "GAME OVER" somple

somewhere neor the centre ond click om the ZOO! utton. You will see a new display replace the
oscilloscopes in the lower window. The disploy provides an incredible close up of each pointer ond it
will enable you te produce very accurate loops. Press ZOOM again te clear the display.
CREATING LOOPS
Reset the pointers at each end of the sample, then coll up the LOOP menu. Select each of the LOOP
icons in turn — Faye eS S| — ] Moves the Super Loop pointer RIGHT - 1 pixel at o time.
Initiolly the Super Loop pointer is located beneath Pointe 1 — Reposition it between
the other two pointers and click on FORWARD LOOP — the loop will start ot Pointer 1
= on to Pointer 2 — and then return to the Super Loop pointer — to form a
continuous loop between the last two pointers. Similarly selection af REVERSE LOOP
‘wil have the opposite effect.
Use SUPER LOOP in conjunction with ZOOM to a
jeve precisa looping effects.
Provides o very close up view of each pointer and the sample waveform — thus
snobiing fine tune adjustment for leoping and editing purposes. The outside windows
Show the input waveforms for eoch channel, in real time, whilat the thrae central
windows ow the somple waveform. The central pointer corresponds with SUPER
LOOP, whilst those on either side correspond with the left and right pointers.
RECORD - Connect 0 suitable sound source to the Technoscund module, ond click
‘on the ECHO menu, Select THRU from the menu, and elick on the RECORD button to

10PLAYS the somple with the screen blonk for high quality
PLAYS the somple ond disploys the waveform, A acon bor shows the section
currently playing
PLAYS the sample under interrupts. This means that you con continue editing the
RTE | sample whilst hearing the effects of your editing. Also the sample outomotically loops
Gt the end. Athough there iso slight reduction in quality, dnd the affective somple rote
ig limited to 23kHz, you will find this play mode invaluable during the creation of loops.
This enables samples to be recorded and played ot voriqus frequencies or musical
SAMPLE RATE notes. The rotes ore adjusted by clicking the arrows in the box, located in the lower
left partion of the sereen, either up or down,
Somplas con be token ot any rote within the ranges shown below:
8 - BIT Stereo 5,000 to 42,224 He 4 — BIT Stereo 5,000 to 29,557 Hz
Mone 5,000 to 57,207 Hz Mono 5,000 to 41,242 Hz
In general you will find thot the higher you set the frequency, the better will be the
quality. However setting the frequency high will reduce the available sample time
‘The period setting indicates the vclue which must be placed in the computer's hardware
ragister, to correctly reploy the sample at its correct speed.
‘SYSTEM OPERATION
VARIABLE CUT BUFFER
The cut buffer size con be varied to auit particular requirements, by editing the file: Cutbuffer.inf
It contains the stotement — Cutbutter= #500004 (ie 50K8)
Chonge the number to suit. eg If you require 250kB simply change the number to #2500004
The sampler reads this file when bootina. if it is not there, then a SOkB will be used.
VAR'\BLE SEQUENCER MEMORY
The length of sequencer con also be chonged by editing the Cutbuffer.Int file, but this time the second
number is changed. Refer to the file for full insieuctions.
COPYING TECHNOSOUND TO A HARD DRIVE
Enter the amigades CLI shell ond type the following:

PHASESHIFT MODES
The most effective modes for using PHASESHIFT on the EXTRA menu, are MONO or SIMULATED STEREO.
CLEARING SAMPLE MEMORY - EXTRACTING SAMPLES FROM GAMES
The message displayed on boot up "De you want to clear sample memory?" con be used in
conjunction with the RAMSCAN focility to extract samples previously stored in memory
DEMOPLAYER
The program "DEMOPLAYER" loods in 9 song, created on the SONG SEQUENCER (not midi)
It loads ina 32 colour (256x320 pixel) binary picture file , dis; eys the picture, and plays the song
Use the right mouse button to exit the pragram. NB. It will not lood IFF picture files.
WwAPPENDIX A
SONG SEQUENCER
The song sequencer enobles the user to link sets of somples together to form a song. Nine different
samples can be stored in oll, though these con be repeoted whenever necessary.
‘The icons with the numbers 1-9 indicate the nine samples with which the sompie positions con be
stored. The sample is not copied to another part of memory when programmed, ils posi imply
noted,
To program o somple, simply position the two pointers oround the somple and press the PROG icon
The stotus disploy will’ show "RE-PROGRAM SAWPLE". Simply click the desired numb: ~ (1~9) to store
its position.
When you have programmed cll the samples you require, you can the go on ta create the song.
SONG CREATION
{lick on the CLR icon to cleor the song memory ond keep the progrommed somples intact, The song

SAMPLE 1 00 --— Position in song 00-48
Somple number te ploy 1-9
To add @ somple to 0 song , click on it's number 1-9. The status will display “ADD SAMPLE TO SONG"
Then click on the top line of the song window where it says "SAMPLE X QO". The X will change to
the number of the sample selected earlier. Other lines in the aang con be programmed in the same
manner until your song is complete.
You can scroll through the song with the up ond down arrow keys.
To delete o sample in the song . simply click with the right button over the line of the song you wish
to erose. The sample number will then be reploced with an X. .
When playing ¢ song with the PLAYSONG icon, the positions in the song , with SAMPLE X inserted,
will be ignored, and the next line will be interpreted. ie. If you hod "SAMPLE 1 00" ot the top of your
song, and "SAMPLE 2 48" ot th bottom, with "SAMPLE X” in between them, then somple 2 would
be ployed directly ofter somple 1, with the somple X s having no effect on the song.
‘ll functions using pull down windows, such as LOAD & SAVE , ZOOM, MIDI SEQ ond USER ECHO, will
be inoperative unlil the EXIT icon is clickedAPPENDIX B
MIDI SEQUENCER
The samples 0-19 are programmed in the same woy os described in the song sequencer section,
except thot if SUPER LOOP is enabled, then the samples willbe looped when they end . The super
loop offset is ignored in this instance.
Four somplea con be played simultaneously using the four audio channels of the computer.
The channels can be selected with the "C" icon.
Clicking on the REC icon will start recording a sequence into the selected channel 0-3. By ploying
(on your midi keyboard, the samples ore played and stored in the channels sequence,

nis used in conjunciion with the MULTITASK icon.
When Technesound Turbo boots up, it reserves all avoiloble memory to run other programs. Hence
the RELEASE MEMORY icon releases memory for other programs to use.
Tegislaceg, momen simely set the two pointers anyuhera in the sample window, and set the gop
between the pointers, to the size you wish the new somple window to be. All memery outside the
pointers is released. The released memory con now be used to run other programs.
MULTI TASK
The MULTI TASK icon simply pushes the Technosound screen to the back of any other screens that
moy be active ie. Workbench screen,
To run gnother program at the same. time os Technosound, simply boot up your, Workbench disk, then
rt your Technosound disk and boot up Technosound, by double clicking on it's icon. When
Technosaund is running, move the pointers apart until the oreo aize indicates roughly 50,009, Then
click on RELEASE MEMORY.
Finaly click on MULTI TASK, and you vil a88 the Warkbench screen. Boot up another pragram which
