Sample Compilation of RRL

This document provides a literature review on topics related to employability. It summarizes several sources that discuss: 1. Attributes that employers seek in recent graduates such as leadership, teamwork, communication skills and problem solving. Internships can help develop these skills. 2. Mixed views on whether a master's degree increases employability, with some saying the value depends on how it is used to build a network and opportunities. 3. A survey finding that PUP graduates are the top choice of hiring firms in the Philippines, though the article questions if this is due to the quality of PUP programs.

1. The survey conducted by the

National Association of Colleges and
Employers revealed that the top 5
attributes employers seek on a fresh
graduates resume are: (1)
Leadership (2) Ability to work in a
team (3) Communication skills
(written) (4) Problem solving skills
and (5) strong work ethic. These
attributes, however, need not be
learned in a classroom. These
attributes may be developed during
broader college experiences, such
as extracurriulars [sic], or can be
learned through internships. The
college does not implement any
internship program currently.
2. The article enumerated the views
of different people on whether a
masters degree increases ones
employability. Some of the notable
ones are:
Continuing education is clearly
important, but the value of a
masters degree depends on what
you do with it.
My decision to pursue postgraduate
study was about the amazing career
prospects Manchester Business
School offered. It gave me the
chance to develop a network of
contacts and get my name out there
in the right circles.
The above-mentioned quote implies
that a masters degree can enhance
your connections to increase better
employment opportunities.

graduates among other universities
in terms of employment. 551
companies that are spread across
various industries participated in the
survey conducted by Jobstreet. 45
percent of these companies prefer
PUP graduates. However, the article
did not mention the quality of the
academic programs offered by PUP
being a playing factor in the
graduates employability, describing
their qualities as being [generally]
hard-working, often going the extra
mile in their job. and nothing else.
This raises doubts as to the role of
PUP in terms of its graduates
employability.
2. Vacancies for auditors and
accountants are the hardest to fill,
according to the data gathered by
the Bureau of Labor and
Employment Statistics. These are so
because most applicants are
unqualified, most applicants are
inexperienced, and qualified
applicants expect too high a salary.
These reasons are said to be
consistent with the findings of a
graduate tracer study in 1999, where
unemployed college graduates tend
to be picky in terms of employment.
