Configuring Microstation V8i for PowerOffice 12 on Windows 7


Once the Inspired Interfaces software has been installed, licensed and run once. Microstation
needs to be configured in order to use the PowerOffice resource files and Macros.
Step1 Configure Windows.
Make sure that the computer's files and folders are not hidden and the full path is displayed in
the title bar.
Do this as follows:
1. Left click on the Windows Start icon.
2. Left click on Control Panel.
3. Change View By to Category - Click the drop down arrow in the top right hand corner of
the screen and select Category.
4. Left Click Appearance and Personalisation.
5. Left Click Folder Options.
6. Left click on View tab.
7. Place a tick in the Display the full path in the title bar (Classic theme Only) checkbox.
8. Put the dot next to 'Show hidden file folders and Drives.'
9. Remove the tick from Hide extensions for known file types
10. Left click on Apply.
11. Left click Ok and close Control Panel.
The path for the Cell library, Line Styles, Macros, Design Seed file and Toolbar File can now
be configured.

Step 2 Copy files.

Open Windows Explorer


Open a second Windows Explorer by right clicking the Windows Explorer button and
selecting Windows Explorer

Arrange them next to each other on your screen so that they both are visible.

We need to copy two files and paste them into specific locations.
It is VERY important that the correct files are copied to the correct locations. Any slight
deviation will prevent the two programmes from communicating correctly.
1. Design Seed File

In the left hand window, double click on Local Disk C:


In the right hand pane, double click Data
Double click PowerOffice
Double click Templates
Copy ElectrificationDesign.dgn
In the left hand pane of the right hand window, double click Local Disk C:
Double click Program Data
Double click Bentley
Double click MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)
Double click WorkSpace
Double click System
Double click Seed
Paste ElectrificationDesign.dgn

2. Toolbar file

In the left hand window, click the Back arrow once


Double click SystemFiles
Copy ustn.m01
In the right hand window, click the Back arrow twice
Double click Interfaces
Double click MicroStation
Double click Default
Paste ustn.m01

Close the right hand Windows Explorer.

Step 3 Configure MicroStation.


We now need to configure four environment variables inside MicroStation and display the
PowerOffice toolbar.
In Windows Explorer, click inside the address bar to highlight the path. This should read
C:\Data\PowerOffice\SystemFiles

Right click the path and Copy


Run MicroStation as follows:
Click on Start
Select All Programs
Select Bentley
Select MicroStation V8i (Select Series 2)
Select the BOTTOM MicroStation V8i (Select Series 2)

A File Open dialogue box will open


Click the New button

Type Test as the File Name

Click Save
Click Open

In the menu bar, left click on Workspace and select Configuration


The Category option on the left should be highlighting All (Alphabetical)

1. Cell Library
a. In the View/modify all configuration variables window, search for and select
MS_CELLLIST.
b. Left click the Edit button below the window.
c. The Edit Configuration Variable window opens.

Click the drop down list to change the Edit Mode to Append.
Left click inside the New Value block
Right click and paste.
At the end of the path you have pasted, type \*.cel
The path should read C:\Data\PowerOffice\SystemFiles\*.cel
Left click OK

2. Design Seed File


a. In the View/modify all configuration variables window, search for and select
MS_DESIGNSEED
b. Left click the Edit button below the window.
c. The Edit Configuration Variable window opens.
d. Click the drop down list to change the Edit Mode to Overwrite.
e. Left click inside the New Value block
f. Remove seed2d.dgn and replace it with ElectrificationDesign.dgn
g. Left click OK
3. Line Styles
a. In the View/modify all configuration variables window, search for and select
MS_SYMBRSRC
b. Left click the Edit button below the window.
c. The Edit Configuration Variable window opens.
d. Click the drop down list to change the Edit Mode to Append.
e. Left click inside the New Value block
f. Right click and paste.
g. At the end of the path you have pasted, type \*.rsc
h. The path should read C:\Data\PowerOffice\SystemFiles\*.rsc
i. Left click OK
4. Macros

On your taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click on Windows Explorer.


Click on the Back arrow once.
Double click on Macros
Click inside the address bar to highlight the path. This should read
C:\Data\PowerOffice\Macros
Right click the path and Copy
Minimise Windows Explorer
In the View/modify all configuration variables window, search for and select
MS_MACRO.
Left click the Edit button below the window.
The Edit Configuration Variable window opens.
Click the drop down list to change the Edit Mode to Prepend.
Left click inside the New Value block
Right click and paste.
At the end of the path you have pasted, type \
The path should read C:\Data\PowerOffice\Macros\
Left click OK

Left click OK in the Configuration window to complete the configuration.


Click YES to save changes.

5. Display the PowerOffice Toolbar


a. On the Menu bar, click Tools and select Tool Boxes. You might need to scroll
quite far down to get to the Tool Boxes option.
b. The Tool boxes window opens
c. Scroll down to PO Electrification and put a tick in the check box.
d. The main PowerOffice toolbar will become visible.
e. Click OK to close the window.
MicroStation must now be re-started for the changes to become effective.
