CHAPTER I. INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study


Online ordering system is a system that offers customer a hassle-free shopping market. With this
system, items are ordered and delivered to the customers without spending more time to go to the shop.
The system designed in this project will enable customers to go online and place order and wait for the
delivery.
This system named Shoe Boulevard, an online footwear supplier shop in the Philippines featuring
diverse brands of shoes. Various footgear items will be offered such as rubber shoes, doll shoes, high
heels, black shoes, sneakers, sandals and slippers that are outsourced from different boutique and
brands. Shoe Boulevard is a user-friendly system. In order for the customers to access the system, they
will able to have their personal and authentic accounts to yield convenient, effortless and quicker
transactions.
Ordering system also includes delivery. Once an order is placed it will go directly into the
database and ready to deliver. Delivery services are classified into two categories free and with charge
that varies in particular areas. Shoe Boulevard made customer service available through e-mails in order
to assist all the clients inquiries or concerns. This system allows the users to quickly go through the
orders as they placed and deliver it to the clients. By means of this system, clients got their item without
experiencing agitation, they conserved time and effort and the user still maintain cost effectiveness.

Objectives of the Study


1. General Objective
This study aims to design and construct a Computer-based Online Ordering System and to
provide easy access in getting the orders of the The Shoe Boulevard customers and
providing them efficient delivery services.
2. Specific Objectives
1. To develop a system that will cater and reach the customers orders online through the use
of Microsoft Access Database and Visual Basic.
2. To create more convenient form of ordering and delivering products to customer for Onlinestores and the like.
3. To provide cost and efficient systems for the Small Online Entrepreneurs in assisting and
dealing with the customers orders and deliveries.

Importance of the Study


This project is designed to provide an easy for the customers in getting their orders and delivering
to them the products. It is a self-service ordering system for online stores and specifically, will bring
benefits to the following:
Online Customers / Customers This system will help them to have easy way of shopping and choosing
their desired products. Instead of going to the malls, this system will help the customers to have their
order in just a click and to have it through the on-time delivery services.

Small Online-based Entrepreneurs This system will help the Online Entrepreneurs to have an
organized way of getting their customers orders and to lessen their work in monitoring all of the ordering
and delivery information. Also, it will help them maximize the use of database systems and to minimize
their costs.
Students This system will help the students to have an interest in creating and developing systems like
the Online Ordering Systems to be used in the modern transactions. This will let them be open of the
technological advances and system that will easily cater different transactions and the like.
Future Researchers and MIS developers This system will help the Future Researchers to have an idea
of the basic flow of Online ordering systems and for the study to be a platform for development and
innovations.

Scope and Limitations of the Study


This study is about the process of online shop and its delivery process. It shows the steps on
how customers can order in an online shop, how it will be process and how it will be delivered
to the customer.
This study shows the system on how the to process the information given by the customer
using the database system and how to maintain and manage the system.
This study will provide the potential online entrepreneur the information that they are needed
in starting an online shop particularly a shoe shop. The information contains the structure of
the webpage, the database management, the information to ask to the customer, the
relationship of each process and the information in each step.
This study contains only the online ordering and delivery process of a shoe online shop. The
process of any other online business item is not fully supported by this study.
This study limits only to the process and system about the ordering and delivery.
This study does not provide information for the process of ordering to the supplier and the
process on how to get a supplier. The system of this study contains only information supplied
by the customer.
The system does not provide a process in identity validation. The transaction between the
customer and the online shop is not permitted to disclose to the third person that was not
involve to the transaction.
Definitions, Acronyms, and Abbreviations
MIS Developer developer of a management information system or a computer-based system that
provides them with the tools to organize, evaluate and efficiently manage departments within an
organization.
Computer-based Ordering System a system created usually by an MIS developer. It provides
database of information that is being placed by the users.

Small online-based entrepreneurs entrepreneurs that are engaged with a small business that uses an
online information system to cater online customers.
Online Customers are individuals catered by the online ordering system. They are the main
determinant for the information to be collected by the database.
