Keppel completes proprietary

deepwater accommodation platform

eppel FELS has completed a

s e m i s u b m e r s i b l e
accommodation platform for
deepwater environments.
Worth US$95 million, it was built for the
Special Purpose Company (SPC) between
Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel
O&M) at 85% and JCE Group (JCE) of
Sweden at 15%.
The platform was named Safe Concordia at
a ceremony on 10 March by Miriam
Ericsson, wife of J Christer Ericsson,
Chairman of JCE, at the Western Anchorage
in a gathering of local and overseas guests.
At the ceremony, Christer also presented
Choo Chiau Beng, Chairman & CEO of
Keppel Offshore & Marine with a cheque
of S$10,000 for Keppelite Recreation Club,
in appreciation of a job well done.
Safe Concordia will immediately be
deployed by ConocoPhillips in the deep

waters of the Timor Sea under a short

bareboat charter.
Based on a proprietary design developed
by the Deepwater Technology Group
(DTG), a technology division of Keppel
O&M, the vessel was completed within a
record time of 15 months.
In designing this platform, we employ
engineering concepts that enhances
simplicity in construction and optimises
functional requirements. The entire vessel
was completely modeled on the
sophisticated Tribon system before actual
construction began, said Michael Chia,
Executive Director of Keppel FELS.
During construction, the vessel also
clocked a safety milestone of one million
manhours without loss time incident.
DTG has developed the hull of this
accommodation and service vessel, the

KFELS SSAU 3600-GOM-C42, based on

the highly successful hull forms of the
drilling tenders, West Pelaut, West Menang
and West Alliance, which are presently
deployed in deep waters.
The
six-column
unit
carries
accommodation for 400 persons complete
with full recreational facilities. It is
compact, cost effective and capable of
operating alongside fixed platforms, with
a fully redundant Dynamic Positioning
System, a crane with heavy lifting capacity
and fire fighting capabilities.
Keppel O&M and JCE have invested in
the semisubmersible accommodation
platform in anticipation of expected
strong demand for such offshore
supporting units.
JCE is expected to increase its
shareholding in the SPC to 50 percent
upon securing a qualifying charter. The
remaining 50 percent shareholding in the
SPC that is owned by Keppel O&M will
be subject to call and put options by JCE
and Keppel O&M.
Meanwhile, Safe Astoria, owned by JCE,
is undergoing a conversion at Keppel
FELS from a drilling semisubmersible to
an accommodation platform. The
conversion will be completed in less than
two months.

Sterling results for

Philippines yards

eppel Philippines Marines (KPMI) net profit

doubled to P138 million in 2004 from P64 million in
2003.

The 116% surge was attributed to a strong domestic economy,

as well as the robust international shiprepair market. Revenue
for the repair of foreign vessels accounted for more than half of
the revenues of its three shipyards Keppel Batangas, Keppel
Cebu and Subic Shipyard and Engineering.
Explained KPMIs President, Toh Ko-Lin, The market for
international shiprepair was stronger last year compared with
2003.
Revenues from shiprepair and shipbuilding services climbed
45%, while revenues from operations rose to P1.364 billion from
P942.671 million in 2003.
Other income, the bulk of which came from equity in net
earnings of associates, also contributed to the increase in profits.

KPMI operates Keppel Batangas, Keppel Cebu (above) and

Subic Shipyard and Engineering
KPMI offers the biggest range of docking facilities in its region.
Together, its three shipyards operate three graving docks, a
floating dock, a ship lifting system with seven dry berths and
three slipways.

Mapping out Keppels global

direction

orty-five senior executives from

Keppel Offshore & Marines local
and overseas subsidiaries got
together in Singapore to chart the strategic
direction for the Group.
Facilitated by Keppel O&Ms Corporate
Development department and consultants
from Bain & Co., the one-day Strategy
Meeting on 4 February 2005 reviewed the
Groups progress, since its formation in
May 2002.
Delegates also discussed ways to grow the
company into a Global Leader in other
key segments it is competing in.

Keppel O&Ms Chairman & CEO

Choo Chiau Beng drove the meeting
agenda on technological capability
and people development.
In his opening address, he also
reiterated the Groups utmost priority
to deliver all projects on time and
on budget.
Prior to the session, an online survey
of 60 senior executives had been
conducted to obtain views on Group
performance in terms of global
leadership. The findings were then
used to lead lively discussions in

smaller breakout groups at the

Meeting.
At the end of a fruitful day, strategies
were prioritised and leaders were
assigned for various tasks.
Keppel O&Ms GM (Corporate
Development) Lai Ching Chuan
commented, This meeting has made
us take stock of where we are today,
and how we can distance ourselves
from our competitors.

Further to last issues report on Keppel FELS securing a contract from PV Drilling to build
a KFELS B Class jackup, OffshoreMarine features the official signing ceremony that took
place recently.

n the presence of 60 guests at a

ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City
on 22 February 2005, Petrovietnam
Drilling & Well Services Companys (PV
Drilling) General-Director Do Van Khanh
and Keppel Offshore & Marines MD &
COO and Keppel FELS MD Tong Chong
Heong endorsed the contract.
Illustrious guests at the event included
Pham Quang Du, Chairman of the Board
of Management of PetroVietnam, and Ang
Chay Chuan, the Consul-General of the
Singapore Consulate Office in Ho Chi
Minh City.

Todays ceremony is significant to Keppel FELS as we have been selected to

build PV Drillings first newbuilding project, after a long gestation of more than a
year of tender, evaluation and negotiation.
Work on the rig has already started since we were given the letter of award in
January 2005.
While this is our maiden relationship with PV Drilling, our partnership with its
parent company PetroVietnam dates back to 1988, when we built the countrys
first jackup, Tam Dao. I understand Tam Dao is providing her owner and operator,
PETECHIM and Vietsovpetro very good returns.
Other significant projects that Keppel FELS has undertaken for Vietnam include the
construction of Hoang Sa, a 1,200-tonne floating crane, and a procurement package
for the CPP-3, a central processing platform. CPP-3 is currently operating in Vietnams
White Tiger oil field.
Our appreciation and understanding of Vietnam has deepened with each successful
project. It is our hope that we will be able to better service Vietnams growing oil
and gas industry. Keppel Offshore & Marine remains committed to be your Provider
of Choice and Partner in Solutions.
On this note, we look forward to building a successful partnership with PV Drilling
in the construction of the new jackup.

Advancing the technology

ladder for success
Keppel O&Ms MD & COO Tong Chong Heong gave the opening remarks at the recent Seminar on
Advanced Offshore Technology. OffshoreMarine brings you extracts of his speech.

omeone once said, Every time I

learn or experience something
new, the younger I grow. This is
so apt for the offshore industry as we
harness technology in search of oil and
gas in deeper waters and harsher
environments.
Since the 1950s when man first punched
through the seabed at 14 ft water depth
off the coastline of Calcasieu Parish, near
Louisiana, the industry has made great
leaps to drill in around 10,000 ft water
depths and some 35,000 ft beneath the
seabed in rough oceans.
Yet philosophically speaking, what we
have done in the last 50 years is just
pushing back a small measure of the
frontiers. We are coming back to the
classrooms to learn many more challenges
and how we can tackle them with new
technologies.
The challenge for commercial viability,
and the demand for stringent safety

compliance to protect personnel aboard

offshore structures, call for greater
ingenuity and imagination from all of us.
Singapore has come a long way since the
1960s to become the world leader in rig
building, FPSO/FSO conversion, offshore
support vessel construction and a major
maritime and logistics hub.
Looking ahead, we have to move up the
technology ladder in order to maintain
our position. Collaboration with
customers, designers, operators,
classification societies, leading
consultants, academics and other service
providers is important.
It is therefore vital for us to be linked to
other intellectual centers around the
world to learn from one another.
The National University of Singapore and
other higher learning institutes have also
done a creditable job, with several
milestones including the setting up of the

Keppel Professorship and the Centre for

Offshore and Maritime Engineering in
NUS. The Faculty of Engineering at NUS
also strongly supports the multi and interdisciplinary R&D efforts required to back
our Singapore companies and the oil and
gas industry in general.
Together with the staunch support of the
Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore,
the Singapore Economic Development
Board and other key industry partners,
Singapore will stand a better chance of
being relevant in the global offshore and
marine industry.

Advanced technology
seminar
Organised by Victory Knights
Management & Consultancy, the
Seminar on Advanced Offshore
Technology was held at the EDB
Learning Centre on 19 February
2005.

Keppel FELS is I-Class certified

eppel FELS is the first company

in the offshore industry to receive
the Singapore Innovation Class
certification by SPRING Singapore
(Standards, Productivity & Innovation
Board).
The yard was recognised for its total
approach to developing competencies and
sustaining a culture of innovation.
The Singapore Innovation Class (more
commonly known as I-Class) is a

programme that helps organisations to

identify their innovative capabilities
using the I-Class Innovation Excellence
Framework. The framework enables the
organisations to adopt a comprehensive
approach to developing the 4 Cs
Conditions, Culture, Competencies and
Connectivity for sustaining innovation.

One example is the latest KFELS B Class

rig (ENSCO 106) built for ENSCO
International Inc, which was customised
to meet ENSCOs needs for a larger
footprint in the three legs of the jackup.
The larger footprints give ENSCO 106 the
flexibility to operate in waters where the
seabed conditions are extremely soft.

This certification is a testament to

Keppels commitment in providing
innovative solutions for our
customers.

Shared an I-Class assessor, The

enthusiasm and can-do spirit of the
management and staff that we have
interviewed are commendable.

Zeroing in on safety
Keppel FELS has again received recognition for excellent safety records on its projects.
OffshoreMarine reports.
Safety achievements highlight the significance of our
efforts in ensuring safe practices in the yard. Safety is
paramount to Keppel and it is our duty to ensure that
everyone who comes to work goes home safely.
Safety, however, is not just the yards effort alone. It
includes every workers responsibility to take all the
precautions at work. It also involves the partnership of
owners, contractors and subcontractors. It is only through
concerted efforts that we can achieve a safe working
place for all.

position, including support from
shipwright particularly scaffolding was
commendable.
Up next at Tuas and Benoi yards will be
the concurrent repair of APL Thailand,
APL Singapore and APL Korea.
Said Brian, It will be a major challenge
to all involved to complete the repair of
these three vessels, all at the same time,
two in Benoi and one in Tuas yard, but I
am confident that the Keppel team can do
it.

Insights into Innovation

Keppel Corporation recently participated in a survey on innovation management conducted by the Monitor Group, a
company studying barriers and stimulus to innovation at the country level in various parts of the world. Conducted jointly
with the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), the survey sought to evaluate the level of innovation management in Singapore.
OffshoreMarine features extracts of the interview between Charles Foo, MD (Special Projects) of Keppel O&M who also
heads the Secretariat of the Keppel Technology Advisory Panel (KTAP), and Dr Hitendra Patel, President of Innovation
Management, Asia from the Monitor Group.

t Keppel, innovation is described as the process of

harnessing ideas to create value in new ways through
products, services, technology, process, structure and
strategy.
In his interview, Charles reiterated that innovation without
capturing value is a vain exercise. We are not going into
innovation or R&D for something that the market at the end of
the day may not want, he said, reflecting Keppels commitment
to direct resources to grow shareholders value.
On this basis, Keppels senior management, led by Executive
Chairman Lim Chee Onn is lending a top-down thrust to the
innovation culture by establishing KTAP in May 2004. Made up
of highly distinguished individuals, the panel identifies
technological trends and areas that Keppel ought to invest in to
maintain its competitive advantage.
At the operations level, numerous task forces continuously
develop innovative solutions for day-to-day operational
problems. The process of developing these solutions inherently
creates a spirit to innovate and a culture of making things better.
Charles also cited the successes achieved by various teams in

national events like the Safety Innovation Teams Convention

where Keppel has picked up numerous awards for developing
processes to increase safety at the workplace.
In addition, Keppel also cultivates a lesson learnt environment
to identify the operational issues and mistakes committed in the
past and document them, all these girdled by a strict no finger
pointing policy with the intention to benefit future projects.
Concurring strongly with such practice, Dr Patel said, One of
our premises for great innovative companies is those who are
able to capture the lessons. Not many companies capture lessons
learnt and capturing lessons learnt is a very valuable exercise,
he added.
Concluding the interview, Dr Patel asked if Keppel had limitless
means, what was one thing we would do differently to increase
the speed, effectiveness and focus of innovation.
Charles answer was swift and sure, We have to have an open
mind and be very receptive to new ideas. People should be able to
walk into your room and talk to you and say Look, this is a good
idea! If that is encouraged, you would have more people being
more forthcoming with new ideas.

Subcontractors our partners

for success

eppel O&Ms MD & COO Tong

Chong Heong started year 2005
on a positive note with a meeting
with Keppel FELS subcontractors on
7 January.
At the session, he offered them advice and
encouragement in anticipation of the busy
year ahead.
CH Tong commented, 2004 was a busy
year for Keppel FELS, and with 2005 set
to be a busier one, I have to emphasise
that safety must be the top priority. It

cannot be compromised no matter how

tight the schedule is.
He reiterated that subcontractors, who play
a key role in all projects, are our partners
for success. He urged everyone to take
ownership of their projects, and to
continue making safety their top priority.
At Keppel FELS, we firmly believe in an
open door policy. Contractors and
subcontractors are encouraged to provide
feedback on various job processes or what
they feel can be done better.

There is always room for improvement

and we must keep striving for continuous
improvement in everything we do.
I hope to see greater cohesion between
Keppel FELS and our sub-contractors to
ensure a smooth and efficient work flow,
he shared.
Currently, there are about 150
subcontractors registered with Keppel
FELS.

Shells Principal dialogue

with Keppel FELS

urposeful and energetic was

how Shell U.K. Limiteds
Principal Structural Engineer,
Rupert Hunt described his visit to Keppel
FELS in early February.
On the invitation of Keppel Offshore &
Marines MD & COO Tong Chong Heong,
a visibly delighted Rupert shared, I very
much appreciate the opportunity to
discuss jackup performance from an
Operators perspective.
Keppel FELS determination to leverage
technology was self-evident but what was
impressive was the yards dedication to
understand feedback from field
operations so that other improvement
opportunities can be identified.
Rupert also took the opportunity to tour
the Keppel FELS designed and built
KFELS B Class jackup, ENSCO 106.
He commented, From my brief but
extremely enjoyable visit to ENSCO 106,
I gained an impression of the maximised
workspace that has been achieved by the
rig design, both from the deck space aft
of the two stern legs, and how the living
quarters wrap around the forward leg.
I was also impressed by the emphasis on
safety throughout the yard, particularly
onboard ENSCO 106 where the challenge
of coordinating a number of different
activities was achieved very successfully.
Amazed by both the pace of work in the
yard, and the manner in which Keppel
FELS executes its engineering and
planning in anticipation of each projects
first steel, Rupert shared how his visit
had helped him gain insights on the ways
new technology was being implemented
by Keppel FELS.
18 OffshoreMarine March/April 2005

I was particularly impressed by the

strong linkage between design and
fabrication. One excellent example was
how the fabrication personnel were able
to achieve specific and special design
engineering specifications for the leg
guides, said Rupert.
He continued, Shell is on the constant
lookout for opportunities to improve
jackup deployments by leveraging
technology, with focus on managing risks
associated with mudline soil conditions
and improving the reliability of the
identification of metocean conditions
suitable for rig moves.

Rupert Hunt, Principal Structural

Engineer of Shell U.K. Limited at
Keppel FELS

I hope that the extremely valuable

dialogue between us will continue.

AmFELS rolls out

roadmap to excellence

eppel AmFELS has rolled

out its Business Excellence
Roadmap and Framework

whilst taking into account national quality

standards and local cultural sensitivity.

First adopted by Keppel FELS in

2001, the BERF has since been
implemented at Keppel FELS Brasil
and now Keppel AmFELS.

The BERF signifies the Groups drive for

world-class standards of business
excellence. It is also a commitment for us
to continually deliver quality products
and services on time and on budget to
our customers.

MD & COO of Keppel Offshore &

Marine and Chairman of Keppel
AmFELS, Tong Chong Heong said,
The BERF is a strategic framework
that allows our businesses worldwide
to be reviewed in a structured manner,

A BERF steering committee comprising

the yards Executive Management was
formed on 3 December 2004. Focus
groups were also established to perform
self-assessments, identify and advocate
areas for improvements.

(BERF).

P-52 and P-51 in progress

onstruction of the two
semisubmersible production
platforms, P-51 and P-52, is
progressing well.

Asian Hercules floating crane has also been

mobilised to lift the blocks some
weighing 700 tonnes from Pioneer II
into position in the drydock in Pioneer I.

At BrasFELS in Angra, efforts are focused

on the fabrication and installation of
P-52 deck blocks onto FS1, the
foundation barge that will serve as a
platform for the assembly of the entire
topside.

Undocking of the two C-sections for the

lower hull is expected in July, to be
followed by the Afloat Joining Operation
to form the Lower Hull Ring Pontoon.

Niteroi yard is steadily building up the

P-52 modules.

Keppel FELS Senior Project Manager

Yeong Wai Seng says, We are now
looking at the next phase of important
activities.

In Singapore, progress is steady at Keppel

FELS Pioneer I and II yards, and Keppel
Shipyards Benoi and Tuas yards. Steel
blocks are progressively fabricated and
outfitted, and then brought into the
drydock for joining and painting.

Discussions have been held in Paris

between Keppel FELS and Technip to
coordinate the mating operation of the
lower hull from Singapore, with the
deckbox and topsides that are being
fabricated at BrasFELS.

Singapore: Giant P-52 steel blocks

being lifted into the Keppel FELS
drydock for further work

Feedback is also being gathered from all

consortium partners on this important
operation.
In addition, working in close
consultation with the consortiums
Commissioning Group, we are also setting
up the Lower Hull commissioning,
planning and operations team for all
marine and process equipment.

Brazil: At BrasFELS, deck blocks are

installed on the deckbox on the FS-1
barge

This advance planning will hopefully

reap benefits in the months to come.
Keppel FELS Quality System Manager
Cindy Lim who was tasked by the Keppel
O&M management to facilitate the global
roll-out shared, Operational excellence is
achievable only when we work towards
SMART (specific, measurable, achievable,
relevant and time-bound) objectives and
tangible deliverables, where there are
appropriate measures that can be readily
tracked. It is our aim to encourage the team
at each shipyard, from top management
down to the individual worker, to be
dedicated to doing just that.

Strike steel for P-51 commenced at

Nuclep yard on 5 January 2005, when
steel for the first pontoon block of the
production platform was cut.
In Singapore, much of the required
materials for its construction have been
procured and shipped to Brazil.
Several Singapore Keppelites will also be
making their way to Brazil to join their
Brazilian counterparts, including an
Engineering Support Team from Keppel
FELS.

Keppel Verolme takes on

Solitaire again

ipelaying vessel, Solitaire, arrived at

Keppel Verolme on 22 January for fast
track conversion within two months.

Keppel Verolme started work on Solitaire before

its arrival at the yard. It successfully removed
two aft sections of the 770-ton stinger and the
complete propulsion system comprising eight
azimuth thrusters while the vessel was berthed
at the deep waters section of the Rotterdam port.
While Solitaire was sailing from the Middle East
towards the yard, the project team started
prefabricating the 1400-ton sponsons for
additional buoyancy and preparing a new
tweendeck.
New equipment to prepare the Solitaire for
greater pipelaying depths has arrived at the
yard. Solitaires hull is now being hydro-blasted
(more in box story) and will undergo a six-layer
underwater coating to ensure the vessel looks
as good as new.

KeVe introduces
environmentally
friendly hydroblasting
Keppel Verolme, through its whollyowned company Marine and Offshore
Protection and Preservation (MOPP),
takes environment conservation to the
next level by introducing high-pressure
hydro-blasting.
The environment can be kept cleaner
without dust from gritblasting.
Production can be more efficient
hydro-blasting on Solitaires hull was
25% faster than if normal blasting was
done. Last but not least, there are cost
savings when it comes to cleaning the
dock, it makes it relatively easier if
hydro-blasting was executed on a vessel.

Heeding the Beacons beckon

uly 26, 2004 was just another day at

work for most, but not for the Keppel
FELS project team.

They had just received Atwood Beacons

call for assistance.
While on assignment to ConocoPhillips
in the Natuna Sea Block B off Indonesia,
she encountered some leg penetration
difficulties in the unexpected soil
conditions during her preload.
Keppel FELS sprung into action
immediately by sending a team to assist
Atwood Oceanics and ConocoPhillips
with recovery operations. Her damages
were assessed and the decision was made
to tow her into Keppel FELS for repairs.
For the next six months, Atwood
Oceanics and Keppel FELS worked round
the clock to repair Atwood Beacons
damaged legs and derrick.
All had one aim in mind to get the rig

back to shape in the shortest time

possible.
Whilst undergoing repairs, she secured a
short-term charter to Vietnam.
To get her ready, the team decided to
restore her legs in two phases. Phase one
consisted of leg renewals of up to 489 feet
and phase two, further extension to her
original operational water depth of 517
feet. In addition, her slightly damaged
derrick, the drill floor structure and
standpipe manifold were repaired.
Other works included jetting lines and
raw water tower system repairs, jacking
and fixation systems check, wear and
guide plates repair and partial
refurbishment of her main deck, lower
level machinery spaces and living
quarters, which suffered some water
damages.
Following her successful phase one repair
in February 2005, Atwood Beacon has

since resumed duties. She is expected to

return to Keppel FELS yard in July this
year for phase two works.
Alan Quintero, Atwood Oceanics General
Manager (Engineering), commended
Keppel FELS for an excellent repair job.
He wrote to Michael Chia, ED of Keppel
FELS, Now that the Atwood Beacon has
returned to work, I want to take this
moment to thank you and your staff for
all the support you gave us immediately
following the punch through incident last
year and throughout our investigation and
follow up process.
It is rare to find an organisation that takes
the kind of pride in their product that
Keppel FELS and OTD have shown.
Atwood Beacon is a KFELS B Class jackup
rig designed and built for Atwood
Oceanics. The vessel was successfully
delivered in May 2003, five weeks ahead
of schedule.

Mating hulls at Caspian Shipyard

ssembly of the four main hull

sections of BP Shah Deniz TPG
500 platform jackup are
progressing well at Caspian Shipyard
Company (CSC), a subsidiary of Keppel
O&M.
The four completed strips arrived at CSC
in Baku on 16 October last year, from
Singapores Keppel FELS, for integration
works in a floating drydock.
Other installation works included
jackhouse assemblies, crane pedestals and
machining work associated with the
jackhouses, crane pedestals and skid
beams.

Completion of the six-month project is

expected in the second quarter of 2005.
The TPG500 platform jackup was a fasttrack project awarded by BP Exploration
(Shah Deniz). When BP approached
Keppel FELS in March 2003 to undertake
this project, a team of engineers was
mobilised immediately to join the BP Shah
Deniz Project Team in Paris. In less than
12 weeks, steel was struck for TPG500.
Within 12 months, the four hull strips
fabricated from high tensile steels were
completed and left Singapore for the
Caspian Sea.

A self-installing jackup drilling/

production/quarters platform, the TPG
500 jackup will be the first world-class
gas-condensate drilling/ production
platform in the Caspian Sea when it is
completed in the third quarter of 2006.

Raising funds ...

ig hearts. That was what

Keppelites showed they have as
they banded together to raise
funds to help alleviate the sufferings of
the Tsunami victims.
From across the Group, money poured
in. Helping to coordinate this massive
exercise with the respective HR divisions
were the Keppel Volunteers and Keppelite
Recreation Club (KRC).
The generosity of Keppelites contributed
to a sum of more than S$74,000 which
was presented to the Tidal Wave Asia

Fund via the Singapore Red Cross on

24 January.
For Keppel Volunteers Chairperson
Jackson Goh, the gush of donations for
the tsunami crisis was very heartwarming and encouraging.
Fellow Keppelites, he shared, have been
extremely compassionate, and liberal in
giving. Even employees from our
overseas subsidiaries called back to ask
how they can donate, and if it was possible
to deduct it from their salaries.

Story has it that Keppel Shipyards steel

fitter, Nalla Narayana Prasad, even went
around the hostels to appeal for
donations.
An Indian national, Prasad felt compelled
to give although his family and friends
back home are safe. However, being
unable to contribute much himself, he
took the effort to ask for donations
instead.
Many people have been hurt or have
died, and its very sad. We must help
them, he said.
Apart from Keppelites, customers,
contractors and vendors also contributed

Keppel wins multi-million deal from

Maersk to build jackups

eppel FELS has secured contracts

to build four jackup rigs for A.P.
Moller Maersk A/S (Maersk).

The four new high efficiency jackup rigs

are of the CJ 50 design from Marine
Structure Consultants. They can operate
in water depths of up to 350 feet, and
drill high-pressure wells of down to
30,000 feet.
The first rig is expected to be completed
in fourth quarter 2007, while the rest will

be delivered consecutively in half-yearly

intervals thereafter.
Jess Soderberg, Chief Executive Officer of
Maersk, shared, We are looking forward
to working with Keppel FELS on these
technically advanced high efficiency
jackup projects.
Keppel FELS and its sister company,
Caspian Shipyard Company, successfully
designed, constructed and completed
Maersks semisubmersible rig, the Maersk
Explorer, in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2003.
That project showcased Keppels
technological expertise, execution
capability and commitment to deliver
quality products on time and within

budget, even under extreme and difficult

environments. The excellent relationship
between Maersk and Keppel FELS also
contributed to the successful completion.
Choo Chiau Beng, Chairman & Chief
Executive Officer of Keppel O&M, said,
This is the largest series of jackup
contracts that Keppel FELS has secured
from a customer at any one time.
We are pleased that Maersk continues to
choose Keppel as their partner of choice
to participate in their offshore fleet
expansion programme.
The A.P. Moller Maersk Group, based
in Copenhagen, Denmark, is a major
international enterprise with activities
covering diverse areas such as shipping,
exploration and production of oil and gas,
shipbuilding, aviation, industry and retail.
The Group Fleet comprises more than
250 vessels with a total deadweight of
about 12,000,000 tons and includes
container vessels, tankers, car carriers,
supply ships, special vessels and drilling
rigs.
