Product Overview:

The 1747-BSN Backup Scanner Module offers users the ability to establish a redundant
processor system in which a secondary SLC-5/02 or later processor is able to take over in
the event that the primary SLC-5/02 or later processor should either fail or simply
transition out of RUN mode.

Applications:

The 1747-BSN is part of a redundant system including a minimum of 2 BSN modules, 2


SLC-5/02 or later processors, 2 1746 local chassis, 2 power supplies and remote I/O.
Local I/O should not be used, because it will not be backed up. Redundant systems are
typical in the petrochemical and water/waste water industries. A redundant processor
system can be used in any application that cannot afford downtime due to processor
faults or power outages.

Why is AB offering these


modules?

The world-wide market for processor redundancy exceeded 100 million dollars (US) in
1997. Allen-Bradley redundant backup systems available today account for processor
sales of $7 million. This new solution for the SLC500 product line is an affordable and
highly competitive offering for this market, with backup features like the 1785-BCM as
well as the same remote I/O scanner features as the 1747-SN module.
