How to confess

1. Enter the confessional, make the sign of the cross and say: Bless me father, for I have
sinned. It has been (Say the number of weeks/ months/ years) since my last confession.
These are my sins
2. Say your sins to the priest.
3. Conclude with: For all these sins and for those which I cannot now remember, I humbly
beg pardon and forgiveness
4. Listen to the words of the priest. Accept the act of penance that he proposes and guided
by him, manifest your sorrow by reciting the act of contrition.
Act of Contrition
O, my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you. I detest all my sins because of your just
punishment, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all-good and deserving of
all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near
occasion of sin. Amen.

Thanksgiving after confession


How good you have been with me, O Lord! I have no words sufficient to thank you. You have
forgiven the many faults I have committed with infinite mercy in this holy confession. Again, I
am sorry with all my heart, and I promise, with the help of your grace, never to offend you again
and to make amends with much love and with good deeds for the countless times I have offended
you in my life. Most Holy Virgin, angels and saints of heaven, I thank you for your assistance;
you, too, thank the Lord for me, and obtain for me constancy and progress in doing good. Amen

Lords prayer

Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this
valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after
this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet
Virgin Mary.
