The Fifth Generation Fighter is the current standard naming convention for nextgeneration fighter aircraft. It is a fighter aircraft classification used in the United States
and elsewhere encompassing the most advanced jet fighter generation as of 2014. Fifth
generation fighter aircraft are designed to incorporate numerous technological advances
over the fourth generation jet fighter. The aircraft considered for the title features all-aspect
stealth even when armed, Low Probability of Intercept Radar (LPIR), high-performance air
frames, advanced avionics features, and highly integrated computer systems capable of
networking with other elements within the theatre of war for situational awareness. The
only currently combat-ready fifth-generation fighter, the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor,
entered service with the U.S. Air Force in 2005.
The top 10 fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft.
The Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) is a single-seat, twin-engine fifthgeneration stealth multirole fighter being developed by India. It will complement the HAL
Tejas, the Sukhoi/HAL FGFA, the Sukhoi Su-30MKI and the Dassault Rafale. Unofficial
design work on the AMCA has been started. The product design work of Advanced
Medium Combat Aircraft has been started by the Defence Research and Development
Organization (DRDO) and the vehicle is expected to be ready in 2018. Dr Tamilmani,
Director General (Aeronautical Systems) DRDO, Bangalore.
The Sukhoi/HAL Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) is a fifth-generation fighter being
developed by India and Russia. It is a derivative project from the PAK FA (T-50) being
developed for the Indian Air Force. FGFA was the earlier designation for the Indian version,
while the combined project is now called the Perspective Multi-Role Fighter (PMF). The
completed PMF will include a total of 43 improvements over the T-50, including stealth,
supercruise, advanced sensors, networking and combat avionics. The first aircraft is to
begin testing in India in 2014, with introduction into service expected by 2022.
No longer content on purchasing foreign military goods, Turkey has undertaken programs
that look to stock the southeastern power from within. TFX is a Fifth-generation jet fighter
being developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). Turkey now joins the United States,
Russia, China, Japan and South Korea as the handful of nations committed to the fifth
Generation fighter process.
Joining several other notable world militaries, Japan is in the process of developing an
indigenous 5th Generation Fighter concept under the ATD-X Shinshin designation. The
Mitsubishi ATD-X Shinshin is a prototype fifth generation fighter aircraft that uses
advanced stealth technology. It is being developed by the Japanese Ministry of Defense
Technical Research and Development Institute (TRDI) for research purposes. The main
contractor of the project is Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Many consider this aircraft to be
Japans first domestically made stealth fighter. The aircrafts first flight is scheduled for
2014.
The Fifth Generation Fighter alongwith the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle is the current
buzzword in the aviation defense industry. KF-X is a South Korean program to develop an
advanced multirole fighter for the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) and Indonesian Air
Force (TNI-AU), spearheaded by South Korea with Indonesia as the primary partner. It is
South Koreas second fighter development program following the FA-50. The fifth
generation fighter aircraft is a technological marvel, intended to surpass the capabilities of
4th generation mounts in wide circulation today through powerful tracking and
engagement facilities, advanced avionics, high-end engine installations, agile performance,
composite structures and inherent stealth features to help dominate the battlefield.
The Sukhoi PAK FA is a twin-engine jet fighter being developed by Sukhoi for the Russian
Air Force. The Sukhoi T-50 is the prototype for PAK FA. The PAK FA is one of only a handful
of stealth jet programs worldwide. The PAK FA, a fifth generation fighter aircraft, is
intended to be the successor to the MiG-29 and Su-27 in the Russian inventory and serve as
the basis of the Sukhoi/HAL FGFA being developed with India. The T-50 prototype
performed its first flight 29 January 2010.
A single-seat, multirole stealth, twin-engine fighter aircraft, the Chengdu J-20 Black Eagle
is manufactured by Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group (CAIG) of China. It is a fifth generation
fighter aircraft being built for the Peoples Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). The J-20
made its first flight on 11 January 2011. General He Weirong, Deputy Commander of the
PLAAF said that he expected the J-20 to be operational in 20172019.
The worlds premier fifth Generation fighter aircraft. The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is a
single-seat, twin-engine supermaneuverable fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It
was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities that
include ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence roles. Being Americas
premier air-superiority fighter, the F-22 evolved from its original concept to become a lethal,
survivable and flexible multimission fighter. By taking advantage of emerging technologies,
the F-22 has emerged as a superior platform for many diverse missions including
intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance and electronic attack. The aircraft is
operational today.

total idiocy. There is actually no way to determine the ranking of each one of these planes since only
one is operational and 2 are not top secret stuff that is still in development. So little is known about
most of these jets that it is useless to make a list like this.

This article is not very accurate, for the primary reason that there are only five fifth-generation fighter
jets that have actually been built-T-50, J-20, J-31, F-35, and F-22. The ones from Japan, South Korea,
and India are only speculations.
The credibility of this article is further damaged by the fact that India hasn't been able to produce even
a good 4th generation fighter jet. The Indian Air Force had to spend US$10 billion to buy 100+ Dassault
Rafales from France(Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft Agreement), simply because it's 4th
generation technology wasn't up to the mark; even the first indigenous Indian jet engine, the Kaveri,
hasn't been a success, at least not yet.
So, to assume that India can build a great fifth generation fighter jet from such an unstable
technological base is little more than wishful thinking.
The Shinshin looks awesome, though!

India has the capacity to make 5 th gen fighter becoz india has top fighter fighters from both west
and Russia and all these comes with transfer of technology. About HAL Tejas, yes it took lot of time
coz the project started from zero unlike USSR or USA which took over technologies from old
Germany and took there scientists. India started from point blank and there was ban on export of
materials to India by other countries for many decades. Now when India starting producing the
materials its own the tejas project speeded up. Indian 5th gen fighter will have many russian and
french technologies it will be best and the project is again on go after a small delay. India is the only
country which is going to start a thorium nuclear plant soon. Those who think India can't make these
planes I personally feel sorry for them coz this is not 80s or 90s, India is on a development journey
and the capacity of this country will only increase in coming decades like Mars mission suprise the
world will see many wonders from India in near future this just a begining. And already Tejas mk 2 is
on development stage and mk3 is on planning. Already tejas set for mass production. By closing
your eyes the whole world does not go into darkness its only for you the darkness.

LOL! There is a little darkness in there for you too...Von Braunt died in 1970, and the space
program is firmly in US capability...The US have been leading jet fighter research since the
50's....No German scientist help Boeing build the B29, B 17 and the latest series of commercial,
military aircraft....go give your head a shake...

Obviously your Indian, I can tell by your ignorance of the English language, if this is a reflection of
India's intelligence I don't think we have to worry about any of the fighters they produce, you guys
should stick to making rugs, because everything else that comes out of that country including the
people, is PURE CRAP! Take a bath & put on some deodorant to, you people stink, & the curry isn't
helping.

Making jets takes a lot of time LarryWayne, and India's defence minister, Manmohan Parrikar
explicitly stated that India bought the jets in flyaway condition (immediately).
But then, if you actually watched the news, you'd see that India has just boycotted the order, and
cancelled, they are no longer buying any Rafale jets from France.
And India is not a country to be underestimated, it has the fastest nuclear missile in the planet,
BrahMos, co-developed with Russia.
It has a nuclear-powered super aircraft carrier in the making (super-larger than 70,000 tonnes), of
the INS Vikrant class.
It has the second largest military infantry in the world (2nd to only China).
India has just had its "lost decade" for its military, because the idiotic INC party was put in charge,
and neglected it constantly, now an economic/military-minded government has been put in
charge, who are very pro-business (BJP) and they're working on modernizing their military.

They are not only speculations. the work on every jet is at different stages. from designing to a build
prototype.
India only had PSLV rockets and had failures at GSLV rockets. they declared they are going to reach
moon and they reached. Then India started getting better with GSLV rockets but not a master still,
and declared they want to reach mars, they did that also. LCA-tejas was a learning curve. the first
step towards the next advanced jet. it has been completer and the work is going on, on LCA-tejas mkII and AMCA. also on sukhoi/HAL FGFA. India has some of very surprising technologies. you just
need to read more from here and there. History said that whatever India said they are going to do,
they have done it.

Absolute rubbish....just like this article. India has still not bought Rafales from the French (and thank
god for that....I read that the french defense minister is coming to India to kiss some ass...I mean
finalize the deal). Rafales are too expensive and in return, do not give you much and India can do a
much better job by upgrading Tejas for cheaper. As for Tejas, this was India's first attempt in
designing and manufacturing a fighter from scratch. Of course it will take time. The project started in
1989 when India was cut off from the world, was not growing rapidly in terms of economy and
suffered (still does) from severe brain drain. Also, remind me how much does the US spend on
defence every year? and how much of that is in R&D? India was and still is in no position to spend
such a huge amount in R&D.
I consider Tejas a remarkable achievement for India against all those odds. As for the jet engine, well
I cannot argue there. They cancelled it and I hate DRDO for that! But I heard that its not a complete
waste and they can modify the existing engine to use them in UAVs so I guess its not a complete
waste.
India has battled against all technological odds which is why it took time to develop Tejas and other
aerospace tech. The ride would be smoother from here on. Remember, it always takes time to setup
and good foundation.

India should give up trying to build fighter jets and use its people brain power that stayed in India
to find solutions for the abject poverty 300 millions of its citizens find themselves in...truly
pathetic...

Yea sure man. And if you are chewing gum, you cannot walk at the same time...at least by your
logic. Governement's job is to make it easy to create jobs which can uplift people. Not hand out
free money you supercilious fuckwit. Research and manufacturing in defence, space and other
tech creates high tech jobs which reduces brain drain. In the past decade there has been a huge
boom of the Indian middle class due to rise in economy. The last I checked, Indian economy is
rising by 7.5% annually. One has to realize that it took China around 3+ decades of unbelievable
economic growth and authoritarian regime to reach to this level and it is still not perfect. The
actual growth of Indian economy has just begun. Also, remind me where US was 70 years after its
independence? A nation takes time to develop. Especially a nation with 1.2 billion people with the
most cultural/religious diversity on the planet. But of course you are a troll and you would not let
petty things such as truth, facts and figures get in your way. So continue....

To remind you coz japan itself indigenously had not developed any 4 th gen aircraft for its air force
but still developing 5th gen aircraft while India indigenously developed HAL tejas for itself and is
better than many aircrafts of its kind. And to talk about Rafale many nations have expressed their
interest in that to boost the power in their airforce. If you look at China it has imported Russian
fighter jets for example sukhoi su 30 mkk, but does it mean it does not has the capability to build its
own fighter aircrafts. So please refer to sources before commenting

Amca is not a speculation. The govt. has already sanctioned Rs.300 crores for its development. First
prototype is expected by 2017. The LCA Tejas is of 4++ generation and the mark-2 version expected
by 2017 is even better. IAF has not yet bought those Rafaels vcoz they believe they can make better
themselves..

Look at the list given here ,8th rank to be precise. The FGFA was the earlier name for the Indian version ,
but the new combined HAL/ sukhoi PMF, derivative of the Sukhoi PAK FA T-50, will really have 40+
improvements over the PAK FA T-50 itself(check the list on any website if u wish for the rankings of pak
fa t50....this one itself if u wish)....so it shows how advanced India is becoming...apart from the fact that
India was isolated from weapon technology transfer and recently opening up and the great brain
drain.....in all R&D centres in US , be it NASA or weapons centres, large part is constituted by Indians,
there is nothing Indians can't do.....america was unsuccessful in its first mars mission, then took 6
years and 671 million dollars to get there in second attempt, India completely on its own did it in 1st try,
that too in 15 months with only 75 million dollars....don't underestimate....where was USA 67 years after
independence.....when British left India, it was practically zero, from thereon till now, inspite of weapons
technology transfer to India ban and brain drain, India has made great improvements....it will continue
to do so....all people commenting against it must understand this! After independence, poverty,
unemployment, diseases and great social diversity problems were widespread. It takes great amount of
money, resources and diplomacy to mitigate this, bcoz of government's spending in these areas, less is
available for R&D and other student facilities, this led to huge brain drain...But the government has been
greatly successful in this all and inspite of all odds, country has made great technological and weapons
advancements in just 67 years!.....It will take some time now, but after what the country has been
through, it has made incredible development compared to others!

Absolutely. But we should not give organizations like DRDO and HAL more credit than they deserve. I
had a friend working in HAL and the pace at which work progresses is downright pathetic to say the
least. And despite all that still they could accomplish to make Tejas. India has a huge potential but
until all the bureaucracy is toned down, it will not move at a significant pace. I hope with the recent
efforts of the government, there might be some improvements. And of course, the economy also
plays a big role. We recently started growing rapidly after we opened up the markets. I am really
hoping good things for AMCA. I hope that HAL quickens up the work and finishes it in less time than
Tejas.
I personally know a lot of Indian engineers who want to work in the defence sector (including myself)
but are put off by all the shitty ass kissing and bureaucracy stories in HAL and DRDO.

Yeah.....Can't deny that....shitty corruption....well I am still 15 years old....I have 140 IQ, Interstate
Exam 14th rank, top 400(world rankings) in olympiads and stuff and stuff....I don't have anywhere
near the knowledge y'all do....but I will join DRDO and bureaucracy can fuck itself....I'll make best
jets....not just dialogue.....I made a shotgun of my own lol....I have a pic to prove it....but
dismantled it lol....I love weapons...but not violence...I am grateful to the kind country in many
ways...no way I leave the country for jobs.....DRDO it is

We already have 5th Generation Fighters in service and have since "05". Oh, and we started on our 5th
Generation Fighter program in the Mid 80's, that's why we moth balled the F-14 Tomcat!
