Method Statement Installation of PPR Water SupplyFINAL

This document provides a method statement for installing hot and cold water supply piping in wet areas of an office building using polypropylene random (PPR) piping. It outlines the responsibilities of personnel, required documents, equipment, materials, pre-preparation work, safety precautions, and work procedures for socket fusion joining of PPR pipes. The work procedure section describes in detail the steps for preparing, heating, joining, and inspecting PPR pipe fittings using socket fusion welding. These include cleaning and chamfering pipes, heating pipes and fittings to the proper temperature, pushing pipes into fittings until marked, and inspecting the fused seams.

Concrete drilling machine
Set of spanners and screw drivers
Scaffolding
b)

Materials needed are:

PPR pipes & fittings
Drop-in anchors,Threaded rod
Pipe clamps

Pre-Preparation Work
a)

Check the wall/floor sleeves, opening sizes, positions, etc. according to

approved Shop drawings.

b)

Confirm availability of storage space, storage and delivery method for

piping materials.

Safety Precautions
a)

As necessary, barricade or secure the affected work areas as safety

precautions.

b)

Always wear PPE for personal safety and protection within project site.

c)

Always wear proper eye goggles and dust mask while undertaking
concrete drilling works.

Work Procedure
Socket Fusion Jointing Method
Preparation
a)

Check the temperature: Once the socket fusion is on, check the
temperature, which must range between 253 C and 274 C.
This operation must be performed by means of tempil sticks. The yellow
one melts at 253 C. The red one at 274 C.
The fusion temperature ranges between 253 C and 274 C, when the
yellow pen melts and the red one does not melt, the temperature is
perfect for fusion.

b)

Clean the heating tools: After checking the heater bush temperature,
wipe the heater bush with a clean cloth. This operation must be repeated
after each welding.

c)

Cut the pipe: Cut the pipe at right angle, if necessary remove swarf
from inside.

d)

Chamfer the PPR pipes: In chamfering the ends of pipes, use suitable
or proper tools.

e)

Clean pipe and fitting: Clean the fitting inside and the pipe outside
(the presence of dust can cause improper fusion).
Fusion welding:

a)

Mark the pipe: Mark the pipe for depth of penetration into the heater
bush and fitting (see table). The mark must remain visible under heating
and joining.

b)

Heat pipe and fitting: Push the pipe and the fitting into the heating
tools. Once pipe and fitting are hot (after the correct time), pull out pipe
and fitting very slowly.

c)

Joint pipe and fitting: Joint the pipe & fitting and push the pipe until it
reaches the mark (that has to stay outside).
During the jointing time the welded part of pipe and fitting assemblies
must remain fixed, without any rotation.
During the cooling time, the welded part of pipe and fitting can be
adjusted until cold.

d)

Fusion inspection: The outer fusion seam must be inspected. The seam
must be present all around the pipe.

pipe manufacturer.
g)

When all supports, anchors, hangers and pipes are ready, pipes erection
may now proceed.

h)

Perform internal inspection prior to endorsing to the consultant for

inspection.

i)

Once consultant approved the installation, proceed to pressure testing

and once completed and inspected, walls can proceed for plastering.
