Personally I think Griffiths is the clearest writer, and the best quantum book t
o start with. After that I think reading Shankar will help fill in some of the f
ormalism that Griffiths leaves out; Griffiths really boils down the concepts, so
metimes too much, so reading Shankar can give a different, clarifying perspectiv
e.
AnonymousApril 25, 2012 at 11:04 PM
:) Thanks for your kind reply. Actually, I didn't take classical mechanics cours
e, yet. Is it okay to jump into Griffiths? If not, is reading ch2 of shankar(C.M
review) enough?
Nicolas Joseph ScozzaroApril 29, 2012 at 5:09 AM
Try it, if you can catch Griffith's flow, ride it, otherwise instead of flounder
ing you should try some other wave of concepts you CAN catch.
AnonymousApril 29, 2012 at 4:47 PM
Thank you for the advice. Good luck with your study at Ohio :)
AnonymousJune 23, 2012 at 8:38 AM
I agree with Nicolas. I did Griffiths first and am doing Shankar now. Shankar is
a whole lot more meaningful if you have done Griffiths first.
AnonymousSeptember 26, 2012 at 8:03 AM
i think Zettili is easiest to understand than Griffiths (although Griffiths is a
great book) plus it has a lot of examples and solved exercises

ice that you have no solutions for problem 17.2.5, which is one of the problems
Shankar designated as "hard." I recently had to solve this problem for my gradua

Hi
Thanks for this amazing work. I just started reading this amazing book, and havi
ng these solutions alongside helps me to verify mine own.
I find your solution to exercise 1.1.4 to be wrong. The answer is that they are
linearly independent.
Reply
Replies
Shephine ShajiDecember 15, 2016 at 11:30 PM
If you solve the three variable simultaneously linear equations you obtained, th
e answer you get is a1=a2=a3=0. There is no other solution. Your statement that,
"a1, a2 and a3 don't have to be 0 together' is wrong. They have to be.
Please explain in case I am wrong.
Thanks
