2005 ISDA Conference Overview of Pay-As-You

1. Pay-as-you-go credit default swaps were developed to provide protection for asset-backed securities, which have different payment structures than traditional corporate bonds. 2. Unlike standard CDS contracts, pay-as-you-go CDS make floating payments that correspond to shortfalls in interest, writedowns of principal, or shortfalls in final principal payments of the reference ABS. 3. Physical settlement of pay-as-you-go CDS also differs, allowing the protection buyer to deliver the actual ABS to the protection seller at a pre-determined price if a credit event occurs.
