Chapter one
ADDING CONTENT
& LINKS
ACCESSING THE ITEM (PAGE) MANAGER
Go to the k2 items sections by going to
Components > K2 > Items.

You should then see a list of all the items (pages) on the website.
(see right)

FINDING THE RELEVANT ITEM (PAGE)


To find the item (page) you are looking for you can either use the filter at
the top of the item list or the pagination at the bottom of the item list.

Once you have found the item you are looking for click on the title of the item.

ADDING COPY TO THE ITEM (PAGE)
To add copy to an item (page) copy the text from your source and then click in the text area and paste
(ctrl+p on a PC or cmd+v for Mac) the content in. (see below)

Bold/Italic/Underline Text Align Define text as paragraph or header 1,2,3 etc

Ordered and
unordered lists

Toggle code view Add tables Add link (see ADDING LINKS for more details on page xx)

To link to another page first highlight the text


you want to be a link. Then click on the insert
link button highlighted in blue below. (see right)

LINKING TO ANOTHER ITEM


The window below should then popup. Click on
Menu and then either Main Menu or Top Links
Menu to reveal all the pages and subpages in the
selected menu. Find and select the article you
want to link to. The Target drop down menu
determines what will happen when the user clicks
on the link. (see right)

Open in current window:


Opens the link in the same browser window.

Open in new window:


Opens the link in a new browser window.

Open in parent window:


Opens the link in a tab in the same
browser window.

Once you are happy with the link and settings,


click the insert button.

LINKING TO A FILE E.G. PDF
Do the same steps as before to show the link
window but this time click on the little file icon.
(see right)

Define text as paragraph or header 1,2,3 etc Create a new folder Upload a new file

Add a link (you will need to click on the previous pop-up afterwards)

LINKING TO EMAIL ADDRESS


Do the same steps as before to show the link
window but this time click on the email icon.
(see right)

The window below should then popup. Enter the


relevant information, click OK then click insert.

SAVING THE ITEM


Once you have finished adding copy and links to
the item click on either:

Save & Close:


Saves and closes item.

Save & New:


Saves and creates new empty item.

Save:
Saves item and remains on current item.

Cancel:
Cancels any changes that have been made to the
item. (see below)

10. A popup window will then appear listing all the items on the website. You can
use the Filter field or the Category dropdown to help find the item. Once
you have found the item click on its name.

11. Give the menu item a title.

12. Define the menu item that you want


the current menu item to a submenu of.
E.g. if you wanted this menu item to
be a sub menu of history you would
select history.

13. Finally click Save & Close and check


the website to see if the new menu item
is appearing in the place you want it.

Changing the order of the menu items
1. 
Go to the menus, main menu.

2. To change the order that the menu items appear in the sub navigation menus you can
use the blue arrows to move them up or down. You can also change the order by
changing the number next to the menu items then clicking the save icon.

ARTICLES
How to Access List of pages
(articles) on the site
The article manager is where you will find all the pages on the
website. To access the article manager hover over Content in
the top navigation and click on Article Manager.

You will then see a list of all the pages (articles) on


the site.

How to find articles


To find a specific article you can use the filter field to search for articles by name.

On pages where there is more than one article such as news pages you can select the category
which will be named based on the name of the page. This will then list all the articles on that page.

Editing Articles
To edit an article, click on the title of the article in the list.

Adding Images to Articles


1. First place your text cursor where you want the image to appear in the article.

2. Next click on the Add Image button shown below.

3. The Popup window below will then appear as above.

A Use this area to navigate to the folder you want to upload your new image to.

B Use this button to upload a new image.

C This is where you select the image.

D To delete an image select the tick box next to the image then press the delete button E .

F This defines whether the image sits to the right or left of the text.

G First click this button then enter the amount of space you want around the image H .

I In most situations this value should be no larger than 300 unless you want it to take up the full
width of the page in which case it should be no larger than 748.

J When you have completed the previous actions click the insert button.

(NOTE) If you make any mistakes after pressing the insert button you can get back to this window by
selecting the image and pressing the Add Image button shown above in Step 2.

(NOTE) If you need to delete an image select the Tick Box next to the image D and then click the
Delete button E

Adding to news items/
testimonials
To add extra items to pages such as new feeds or
testimonials first you need to create a new article by
going to CONTENT > ARTICLES > ADD NEW ARTICLE.

Once you have finished adding the title and content to


the article simply select the category which the article
needs to appear on. The article will then appear on the
page that relates to the category.

IMAGES
Adding image to the gallery (here)
To add an image to the gallery go to the media manager by going
to CONTENT > MEDIA MANAGER.

Once you are in the media manager navigate to the Portfolio folder which is located in
the Gallery folder.

Next click on the browse button to select the image or images you wish to add to the gallery. When you
have selected the image you want to upload simply click on the Start Upload button. These images will
then appear on the gallery page.

If you need to delete an image, click on the X icon next to the image.

PAGES
Adding a new page to the website
1. First create a new article. Add a title and content.
The category can stay as uncategorized and the rest of the
settings can stay the same. Save the article and continue to
the next step.

2. Next go to the Main Menu Manager by going to


MENUS > MAIN MENU.

3. To add a new menu item click on the NEW button.

4. First click the Select button next to Menu Item Type.

5. A popup window will then appear with a list of menu types.


Select Single Article from the list of menu items.

6. Now you need to define which article the menu item is going to use by clicking on the
Select/Change button.

7. A popup window will then appear showing all the articles on the website. You can use the
Filter field to search for the article you created earlier. Once you have located the article
click on the title of the article.

8. Next add the title of the menu in the Menu Title field.

9. If you want the Menu Title to appear as the title of the page select the Page Display Options tag
and turn on Show Page Heading.

10. Next you need to define where in the menu the new menu item is going to appear. To do this, select
the drop down next to the Parent Item label. If you wanted the new menu item to appear on the
About sub navigation menu select the About menu item from the list. You should never select Menu
Item Root or any of the sub navigation menu items such as Our Team.

11. Once you are happy with the changes click the
Save & Close button. It is also a good idea to
check the website to make sure the new menu
item has appeared in the correct location.

CALENDERS

manage events
1. First go to Components > JEvents.

2. Click on Manage Events.

3. You will then be presented with a list of all the forthcoming events. To edit an event, click on the
events Title. To add a new event click on the New button.

4. This is what you will see if you create a new event.

A This tab contains all the event options a part form date and times.

 his tab contains all the date and time options for the event.
This will be explained in more detail in the next step.

C This text field is for the name of the event

D This select field is for selecting the category that the event fall in.

E This text area is for the events description.

All the other fields can be left alone.

A Select this tick box if the event is going to be all day or has
no specific time.
B Select this if the event has a specific start/ End time.

C This is the start date of the event.

D This is the start time of the event.

E This is the end date of the event.

F This is the end time of the event.

G Click this tick box if there is no specific end time.

H This area is for when an event occurs daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. This
will be explained in more detail in the next step.

If the event only occurs once then you can click the Save & Close button.
If the event occurs more than once please see the next step.

A This button will make the event occur daily.
B This defines whether the event occurs every day, every other day or every few days etc..

C This defines how many times the event will repeat until it stops repeating.

D This can be used to define a specific date that the event will stop repeating.

B This defines whether the event occurs every week, every other week or every few weeks.

C This defines how many times the event will repeat until it ends.

A This button will make the event occur monthly.

represent by 1, 15, 20 in this field.

A This button will make the event occur yearly.

B This defines whether the event occurs every year, every other year or every few years.

C This defines how many times the event will repeat until it ends.

D This can be used to define a specific date that the event will stop repeating.

E This defines which days the event will fall on each year out of 365. Putting 5, 10, 20 in
to this text field would make the event occur every 5th 10th and 20th day of the year.

EASYBLOG
ADDING NEWS ITEMS
1. Go to Components > Easyblog > Blogs.

2. You will then see a list of all the news articles on the site.

A You can use this field to search for news items

B Click this button to create a news item

C This is the title of the news item. You can click on



the title if you want to edit the news item

Click on the ticks next to the item if you wish
to temporarily disable the news item

This defines the URL extensions and will be created automatically when the blog
item is saved.

C This allows you to easily link to another news item. (see Adding link to other news item)

This allows you to add videos to the content. (see Adding video to content)

E This is where the content for the news item goes.

F This is where the category for the news items is selecteds.

This function allows you to specify a date and time that the news item will be published.

This is where the main blog image is defined. This will be the image that is shown as the
thumbnail. (see Adding main image)

NOTE: Adding images to the content is the same process as adding images in articles.

ADDING A MAIN IMAGE
1. 
Click on the Blog Image > Select blog image to
choose the image you want to use. (see step 2)

2. The popup below will then appear. If you want to use an image that has already been uploaded
click on the image then click on Use as blog image. If you want to upload a new image, click on
Upload Media. (see step 3)

To upload an image you can either drag the image from
your desktop to the area specified. Alternatively you can
click on Add Media and navigate to the file.

Once the image has been uploaded, click
on Use as blog image.

ADDING LINK TO OTHER NEWS ITEMS
A Select the text or image you want to add the link to.

B Click on the Add link to content button.

C Search for the news item you want to link to.

You will then get a list of news items that were relevant to your search.
Click on the insert link button to apply to link to the text/ image.

ADDING VIDEO TO CONTENT
1.

A Place your cursor where you want the video to appear in the content.

B Click on the Embed video button.

C Insert the link to the youtube video.

D Click the insert button.

A string of text similar to this will then appear in the content representing the video:

SAVING NEWS ITEMS
A This will save the news item but stay in the editor

B This will save the news item and close the editor

C This will save the news item and create a new empty blog item
D This allows you to add videos to the content (See Adding video to content)


E This closes the news item without saving (all changes made will be lost).
