1.0 Introduction
This information is prepared for the client, EMPACT and it is regarding to a design of prototype Mars
Lander. The prototype is tested by rolling down a slope of 2 meters in a range of degree from 30 to 45
degrees and drop vertically with 1 meter of height. The prototype must travel the whole slope
straightly and do not have significant damage after the vertical drop. The size of prototype cannot

12
exceed an A3 paper size and with maximum 210mm of height. The cost of the prototype must less
than $30.

2.0 Dimension Summary

The dimension of all the parts used to construct the prototype is shown on Table 1.0.

4.0 Proper construction skill

4.1 Drilling
Before drilling a hole, a mark of drilling point should be made on the surface of the wheel to
make sure the hole can be drilled on accurate position. The direction of the nail should be hold
perpendicularly to the surface of wheel in order to make sure the nail can drill straightly into it. If the
axle is not straight after installed, it will affect the alignment of the wheels.

4.2 Cutting
Labeling and marking should be done by pencil or marker pen before cut the material. The
cutting must be accurate then the parts of construction only can close-fitting to the each other. The
hole on the sponge should be cut accurately to ensure the parts of bottle can be fit into the hole. The
water bottle will be hold firmly by the sponge and not easily to escape from the holder.

4.3 Gluing
The parts of prototype need to hold together adhesively to prevent the prototype from breaking
apart after experience the vertical drop. Thus, the parts should be glued perfectly as the amount of
glue used is enough to glue the parts tightly.

5.0 Construct method

5.1 Construction of Container

Obtain five sheets of cardboard. Use a penknife to cut the paper cardboard by following the dimension of
the base, two side wall, front and rear wall of the container as the Table 1.0. Use the hot glue gun to glue
them together as the drawing plan.

5.2 Construction of the Bottle holder

Prepare four pieces of sponge. Use a maker pen and a ruler to draw the two different dimension of front
part and rear part of bottle holder on each sponges according to the Figure 1.0. Use a maker pen and a

15
ruler to draw the dimension of side part of bottle holder according to the Figure 2.0. Use a penknife to cut
the sponges carefully by following the drawing of marker pen on the sponges.

FRONT BOTTLE HOLDER REAR BOTTLE HOLDER

Figure 2.0: The side of bottle holder

5.3 Construction of Wheels

16
Obtain a can. Use the penknife to cut off the top and bottom of the can with 2cm of height. Mark a point
on the center of the top and bottom of the can by using a maker pen. Drill a hole on the center of the top
surface and bottom surface of the can by using a nail and a hammer. Use hot glue gun to glue them
together. Use the tape to paste on the connection between the top and bottom of tin to prevent from
breaking apart. Repeat 1 to 4 step for three times.

5.4 Attaching all the parts

Use hot glue gun to glue the sponges on the wall of container according to the drawing plan. Obtain two
straws and cut them with 93mm of length by using a scissor. Attach them on the bottom of the container
by using hot glue gun according to the position of axle holders in drawing plan. Obtain two wood dowel
and cut them with 233mm of length by using a penknife. Insert the wooden sticks into the straws. Put the
ends of the wooden sticks through the hole of wheel and ensure the axle is horizontal to the ground. Use a
hot gun glue to glue on the connection between the axles and the wheels.

Tender Evaluation Criteria

19
1.0 Different types of criteria
1.1 Safety
Safety measures should be upheld by the contractors during the
construction stage to prevent any accidents or casualties. Safety is the
main concern because it can save life, therefore investing for safety is
an essential feature to guarantee the lives of contractors is being
protected.
Expectation Evidence
Safety precautions should be read Contractors must prepare a list of
by contractors before carry out any safety report to be review by the
construction. Proper gears are designer. The safety report should
expected to wear by the constructor include potential safety measures to
when constructing the project to be obeyed during the construction
protect them from being expose to stage.
any hazards.

1.2 Environmental Concerns

Materials that are reusable is strongly encouraged to construct the
prototype because environment impact is one of the consideration by
the contractors. Recyclable materials can reduce the cost of the
prototype and reducing unnecessary waste to the environment at the
same time.
Expectation Evidence
Recycle and reusable materials How to handle the wastage has
should be use when constructing the been created of constructing the
project to reduce the impact of prototype are expected a detailed
wasted materials on the disposal plan will be provide by the
environment and reduce the cost. contractors.

1.3 Responsibility
Responsibility is the main criteria for a team to work out together in
order accomplish goals. Every contractor is expected to be responsible
and collaborate with the designers as a team. Patient and high
efficiency work by the contractors is a sign of being responsible for
their given task.
What can we expect Evidence that we provided
Contractors should reply all the Contractors should provide their
messages and emails related to the email to designer to prove that they
project as soon as possible. Besides are easy to contact and discuss the

20
that, meeting should be held project via email. Other than that,
between contractors and designer at they can show their tutorial of all
least once a week to monitor their subjects to prove they are a
working progress of the project. responsible person.

1.4Professionalism
Well prepared and possess the skills to complete the task that has
been given are the sign of being professional person. One of the most
important aspect to complete and success in constructing the
prototype is being professional. A professional person can solve any
problem in any situation and being calm.
Expectation Evidence
Contractors should be able construct One of the easiest way to prove how
the prototype by fulfilling all the profession they are, is by showing
criteria and requirements of the their Weekly Progress Report. They
project. Contractors are also able to should provide a resume of their
listen all the suggestion given by outstanding skills and plenty of
team members. experiences that are useful and
important in constructing the
prototype.

1.5 Time Management and Punctuality

Time is being manage well and punctuality are important in
determining the success of the project. Contractors should plan and
organize well of their time to avoid any delays or rushing finish the
project without fulfilling all the requirements which leads to the
production of poor quality product.
Expectation Evidence
Contractors must attend all the Any minutes of meeting must be
meetings on time and exempted for able to complete within a day and
absences from meetings must submit to the designer group. Well
provide a reasonable reason during organize schedule should be plan in
the construction stage. Task a draft and show to the designer
assigned to contractors must be during meetings.
complete on time with any delays
and excuses.

21
1.6 Effective Communication
Well communication and being patient when communicating with each
member to avoid and misunderstandings and misconceptions during
the construction periods between the contractor and designers. A good
relationship between contractor and designer can be establish on
proper communication, therefore a good performance is expected to
be achieved.
Expectation Evidence
Ideas provided by the contractors Contractors able to communicate
should be discuss together during well in English and able to reply
the construction stage. This will help message within 12 hours working

1.Introduction
A safety plan is a document that is prepared by
contractors to describe the risks involved in the design,
construction and testing stages and how to minimize the
risks in order to maintain a safe working environment.

This safety plan includes the risks and hazards and their
level of severity, the ways to prevent them and also the
remaining risks involved.
