Eclipse Beam Data Requirement

This document outlines the beam data requirements for photon and electron beams in the Eclipse treatment planning system. For photon beams using the PBC algorithm, it requires percentage depth dose curves, profiles, output factors, and transmission factors for a variety of field sizes and wedge angles. Electron beam data for the GGPB and eMC algorithms include depth dose curves, profiles, and dose output information for open and applicator-defined fields.

Enhance Dynamic Wedges

No data measurement is needed

The beam data of 33 is small enough for IMRT

dose calculation (except for SRS)
Because jaw is fixed in sliding window technique, so
the field size is almost larger than 33
* : Ref. Eclipse Algorithms Reference Guide, July 2008
But Varian Application Specialist seems to give different recommendation

Beam Data File Format

The w2CAD file is used for Eclipse
beam data(PDD & Profile) input.

Appendix C. File Formats for Measured Beam Data

123
Beam Data File Format
Dose Rate Table is used for Dose-Rate (Output) data input.
There are 2 types of data :
Relative output
Gy/MU

For AAA

Dose rates
MU/Gy

For PBC

The TPS will automatically convert the data to correct unit

when importing data.

Transfer to w2CAD File Format

PTW Mephysto IBA OmniPro-Accept

The function of transferring to RTPS is OPTIONAL for waterphantom software.

You should assign what TPS system used when buying waterphantom system.

Beam Data : AAA vs. PBC

The beam data of AAA are fewer than that of PBC.
PDD & Profile data of AAA
Open field
Mantory field size(fs) : 4, 6, 10, 20, 40
Recommended fs : 3, 8, 30
Wedge field
Mantory fs : max. square field
Recommended fs : 4, 10, 15, 20
The output factor tables are the same as PBC
So the AAA data are subset of PBC data.
The Golden Beam Data include all the PBC data.

125
Note for AAA Beam Data
The AAA configuration will verify the beam data
Stop configuration
No measured diagonal profiles
Manatory field sizes are not measured

Ignore data
Deviation of profile field size > 2.5mm
Between the FWHM of measured profile and the assumed field
edge position
Unsymmetry profiles
Profiles with gamma error exceeding 1.0

Varian Golden Beam Data (GBD)

It is called Sample Beam Data now.
Include :
PDD, profile

Output factor table (for 6&10MV, only SPD 100 & d=5)

Not include :
Calibration output factor

Transmission factor

Only for the data of Eclipse needed

If using GBD as beam data, the physicist must do spot-

check to confirm the GBD is good enough for your clinac.
At least 3 field sizes
e.g. 3030, 1010, 44

126
Varian Golden Beam Data (GBD)
GBD File types
Excel file : step size 1mm
Wellhofer(IBA) file : step size 1mm
W2cad file : step size PDD 5mm, profile 2.5 mm
