EE113 Homework 5: Problem 1

This document outlines 9 problems for homework 5. Problem 1-7 do not provide any details about the problems. Problem 8 involves generating 4 signals in Matlab with different frequencies and duty cycles and taking the DFT of each. Problem 9 involves sampling a signal, taking the DFT, designing a low pass filter, filtering the sampled signal, and taking the DFT of the filtered signal.

Problem 8: Matlab
Generate the following 10,000 point signals assuming a sampling frequency of 5 kHz
x(t) sin(2 1000t) 0.3cos(2 2100t)
- x(t) rectangular pulse of 250 millisecond duration starting at time zero
- x(t) a square wave of frequency 2 kHz and 50% duty cycle
- x(t) a square wave of frequency 2Khz and 20% duty cycle
Take the 10,000 point DFT of each signal in Matlab and plot both the magnitude and phase resuponse of
each.

Problem 9: Matlab
We start with an analog signal x(t) given below
x(t) cos(2 150 t) 0.3sin(2 1900 t) 0.7 cos(2 3300 t)
x(t) is then sampled at a sampling frequency of 4000 Hz for 3 seconds to generate the sequence {x(n)}
(a) Take the DFT of x(n) in Matlab and plot both the magnitude and the phase response of the DFT
(b) using a truncated sinc sequence design the best approximate filter to an ideal brick wall los pass filter

wc
with a cut off frequency of 2
. Verify your filter by plotting its frequency response using matlab
(c) pass the sequence x(n) through the filter to generate the sequence y(n), take the DFT of y(n) and plot
both its magnitude and phase response.
