Background of the Author :

Ildefonso Santos was born in January 1897, in Malabon, Rizal. He is the only one son of Andres
Santos and Atanacia Santiago. Ildefonso starts liking writing poem because of his cousin
Leonardo Dianzon. It is also Leonardo Dianzon who find that Ildefonso have the talent of writing
poem when he read the poem about love that Ildefonso wrote. Iigo Ed Regalado also believes
on the talent of Ildefonso. It was then Ildefonso starts on writing poems.

Ildefonso Santos graduated with a degree of education. He is the first mentor of Pilipino
in Naional Teachers College. He also teaches at Baguio Vocational Normal School. He
established Tagalog poet, professor, translator and supervisor for the National Language of the
Philippines. Once his poetry gained public attention, Santos adopted Ilaw Silangan as his pen
name. His works, including Tatlong Inakay Gabi and Sa Tabi ng Dagat, used a force
verse modernist style that incorporated American culture and thought, who gained popularity in
the 1930s ducring the American period of political occupation.

Characters :

Son- the one that has a kite and has a good heart towards his parents.

Father- the one who talks on the poem and advices his one about life as a sign of his love for his
son.

Summary : It is a poem that talks about a speaker as a parent giving life lessons to his child.

A poem that talks about a life of a person. That symbolizes just like a kite, which is
theres a lot that you should do in able to made it, there would be a lot of struggle on making it
and it would may end not that strong but when it could already fly high, it could be something
that people would be amazed of. Like also a kite, life should always be on balance. It also talks
about whatever you have struggles, problems or trials in your life just stay calm, and not be
affected on it but rather just hold on tight in able to be on the top just like a kite.

Lessons:

There would be lots of struggles in life but we should always remember that with our
perseverance, working hard in everything and with a clean hearts and good integrity we could
always win the battle. When you will be on the top and other people will be looking up to you.
Just keep moving forward, but always keep a humble hearts.
