Remote Automation Solutions Gss Quick Guide: Communication Between A Roc809 and A Roc809 Using Modbustcp/Ip

This document provides an overview of communicating between two ROC809 devices using Modbus TCP/IP. It outlines the necessary equipment, including two ROC809 devices without programs, a PC running ROCLINK 800, power supplies, and an Ethernet cable. It describes setting up one ROC809 as the master and the other as the slave. The master is configured with the slave's IP address and register information in the ROCLINK 800 software. The slave is configured to make the desired data available. The master can then read the slave's register values, visible in the soft point registers.

Communication between a ROC809 Doc Name: ROC809 Modbus
and a ROC809 using ModbusTCP/IP TCP/IP

Purpose:

This document provides an overview of the method used to communicate between a ROC809
and another ROC809 device using MODBUS TCP/IP with the ROC809 as a Master and the
other ROC809 as a Slave.

Equipment:

(2) ROC809 without a user program and Firmware version 3.XX or 1.XX.
Personal Computer running
o ROCLINK 800 version 2.40 or later
ROC 809 communication cable for LOI port to configure unit
Power Supply 12VDC to power ROC809
Cross over Ethernet cable to connect between ROC809 devices.

Recommended Documentation:
ROCLINK 800 User Manual
Modbus master Interface Application Module user manual
Modbus Host User Program User Manual

Setup

Step A: Power ROC809 device #1

Connect 12Vdc power supply to BATT terminals labeled BATT + - :

Step B: Power ROC809 device #2

Connect 12Vdc power supply to BATT terminals labeled BATT + - :

Step C: Connect LOI communication cable to ROC809.

Connect the communication cable supplied with the ROC809 to the LOI port and other side to COM1 on PC.

Step D: Launch ROCKLINK800 software.

On the PC launch the ROCKLINK800 software and communicate with the ROC809 using the computer symbol
shown.

Step E: Configure Modbus on ROC809 MASTER

E.1.) On pull down windows go to Configure and select MODBUS as shown below.

E.3.) In the Master Table tab enter the Server IP address (slave), port number which is 502 for IP
and RTU address, function code, slave register and master register (should both be the same
address), number of registers if 32 bit enter 2, Comm status should show an 8 which indicates a
valid slave response.

E.4.) In the Registers tab note that the Start and End Registers are the same value, also the Device
parameter is set to a Soft Point where the value is stored and can be looked at and retrieved,. The
conversion is set to 25.

Soft Point 1 Float #1 is where the Server data will appear.

This table below can be seen in the Roclink Help and search for conversion table.

Setting up the SERVER unit. Go to Configure<MODBUS and Enter. You will see screen below.

9

Go to Registers Tab as shown below and enter the Register information and Soft Point location
of where the value that Master is going to take is located and conversion code 25 as shown in the
example below.

E.5.) Bring up the Soft Point screen.

Below is where the Soft point screen is accessed.

The MODBUS values coming back from the Server device can be seen on the left side where the
Parameters Float is shown on Soft points 1.

Go back to the Master and verify that the data is in the Soft Point Float 1.

END.
