WHO Diabetes Infographic 2016

Diabetes is a growing global health problem, with over 422 million adults currently living with the disease. There are two main types of diabetes - type 1 where the body does not produce enough insulin, and type 2 where the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Diabetes can lead to serious health complications affecting the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. Risk factors include genetics, age, family history, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and obesity. Governments and individuals need to work together to promote healthy environments, ensure better diagnosis and treatment, and encourage healthy behaviors to address this rising global threat.
