Report As Per Is 1893 (Part 1) 2016

1. The document discusses different types of plan and vertical irregularities as defined in IS 1893 (Part 1):2016 for seismic analysis of buildings. 2. Torsional irregularity occurs when the torsional mode of the building has a period less than the translation modes. The extract from STAAD shows the third mode is torsional. 3. Vertical irregularities include stiffness, mass, geometric discontinuities, strength, floating columns, and irregular modes of oscillation. The proposed structure does not have these irregularities as defined.

As per IS 1893 (Part 1):2016 Table 5

Definitions of Irregular building -Plan irregularities

1) Torsional irregularity

2) Displacement based check for torsional irregularity

Relation of torsional mode with translation mode

The below extract from STAAD shows the third mode is torsional mode and hence the time
period of the same is less than the translation modes.
3) Re-entrant corners

Overall plan dimension = 27.730 * 33.251

Plan area of structure = 922.05 sqm

15% of Plan area of structure = (0.15*922.05)

= 138.31 sqm

Plan area of Projection = (2*3.480*7.625)

= 53.07 sqm

The projection is less than 15% of overall plan dimension.

4) Cut-outs in plan
5) Out of plane offsets in vertical elements

For a given building, all the lateral load resisting vertical elements i.e. RCC structural walls and
RCC columns are same in cross-section throughout the height of the structure.

6) Non Parallel Lateral Force system

IS 1893 (Part 1):2016 Table 6
Definitions of Irregular building -Vertical irregularities
a) Stiffness irregularity

In proposed structure is cladded with sheeting and the masonry infill wall are used in staircase
block only ant its structural plan density is 16 sqm and it is only 1.2% of the plan. Also all the
vertical members resisting lateral force are continuous throughout the height.
b) Mass irregularity

c) Vertical Geometric irregularity

d) In plane Discontinuity in vertical elements

e) Strength irregularity
f) Floating or stub column

There are no floating or stub columns proposed any were in the structure.

g) Irregular modes of Oscillation.
