MODULE 1
COLOR CHARTS AND PROPERTIES OF COLOR
INTRODUCTION:
This module covers the different properties of color. Ability to define and identify their
definition.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the color charts and properties of color.
2. Read and interpret the combination of different colors.

COLOR CHARTS
1. Prang Color Chart- it has 12 colors. It divided into three parts primary(red, yellow,
and blue), Secondary color(orange, green, and violet), and intermediate(yellow orange,
yellow green, blue green, blue violet, red orange, and red violet)

2. Munsell Color Chart- it has 10 colors. It divided into two parts; chromatic color (red,
yellow, green, blue and purple) and saturation of these colors (yellow, red, yellow green,
blue green, purple blue, and purple red).
PROPERTIES OF COLOR
1. Hue the other name for color.
a) Primary colors are red, blue, and yellow.
b) Secondary colors are combination of primary colors.
c) Intermediate colors stem from the combination of primary colors and
secondary colors.
d) Tertiary colors are obtain by mixing two secondary colors.
e) Neutral colors are white, black, and gray.

2. Value is the lightness or darkness of color.


Red + Black= SHADE
Red + white=TINTS
Red + Gray=TONES
3. Intensity or Chroma the chroma of color correspond to its purity and saturation
in a color other than black, white, and gray.

INTRODUCTION:
This chapter deals with various color harmony, kinds of necklines in garments,
and shapes of necklines.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1. To identify harmony related to their colors.
2. To differentiate the two kinds of lines in garment.
3. To demonstrate different shapes of necklines.

COLOR HARMONY IN CLOTHING


1. Monochromatic used various values and intensities of one color or one color with
black and white.
2. Analogous Harmony utilize color which are closely related on the color wheel
that contains similar components.
3. Complementary or split color harmony involves direct opposites on the
color wheel.
4. Triadic color harmony is any three color that are of the same distance on the
color wheel.
LINES- refers to the direction of the fabric designs as well as the structure of the
finished garments.
COLOR- is a radiant energy loosely terms light that produces sensation in our eyes.
TWO KINDS OF LINES IN GARMENT
1. Directional Lines- such as vertical, horizontal, diagonal, chekered, broken and
curved.

2. Structural Lines- are found on necklines, armholes, hem-lines, darts, side seams,
sleeves, collar, tucks, and pleats of garments.

SHAPE OF NECKLINES
1. Square Necklines- a combination of vertical and horizontal lines.
2. V-Necklines- diagonal lines.
3. Round Necklines- it is a curve line.
4. Sabrina/Boat/Bateau Necklines- it is a horizontal lines.
5. U-shaped Necklines- a combination of horizontal and curved lines.
6. Scallop Necklines- curve lines.
TEXTURE- it is a fabric character. The quality of the roughness and smoothness,
glossiness or stiffness of a fabric.

INTRODUCTION:
This module deals with the principles of design in clothing and kinds of
design in clothing.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1. Describe the various design in clothing.
2. Explain the purpose of structural design and decorative design.

PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN IN CLOTHING


HARMONY- attained when there is unity among the elements of design like colors
lines shapes, and texture that contribute equally to produce pleasing effect on a
garment.
PROPORTION- all parts of the garments are related in size, length, and width.
BALANCE- has equal amount of weight from the center of interest to all different
directions.
FOMAL BALANCE- dress with a formal design it has the same design on both sides
from the center.
INFORMAL BALANCE- the sides of the dress have different designs from the center.
RHYTHM- this can be attained through repetition, opposition, radiation and gradation
of design in color, line, size and shape. Including buttons and accessories.
OPPOSITION- there are points of intersection in lines from opposing direction.
REPETITION- of lines, color, and shape.
RADIATION- the shirring of the neckline radiate down to the he-line of the garment.
TRANSITION- a change of design from pleats on waist line to fitted skirt at the hem-
line.
GRADATION- graduated size of pockets; small, medium and large.
KINDS OF DESIGN IN CLOTHING
1. STRUCTURAL DESIGN- the manner by which the parts of the garments are cut and
put together.
2. DECORATIVE DESIGN- additional work, decoration accessories added to achieve
the design effect.

INTRODUCTION:
This module deals with the appropriateness of clothing for various
occasions.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:
1. To identify the appropriate clothing for various occasions.

APPROPRIATE CLOTHING FOR VARIOUS OCCASIONS


1. Uniforms- these are clothes that a person uses five to six days a week. Could be a
blouse and skirt, polo and short pants, blouse with long sleeves and pants.
2. Sports Wear- call for different sportswear. Such T-shirt, sando, short pants, skirt and
jogging pants are popular outfits for sports.

3. Casual Wear- these type are used as soon as one reaches home.

4. Sleep Wear- these are clothes used for sleeping.


5. Special or Formal Dress- these are considered as the best clothes. These are used
for business meetings, church services, travel and very important appointments.

FASHION DESIGNING- is a dress designing, production, modeling, and selling of


garments.

POLO SHIRT
SHIRTS- loose garments for the upper part of the body, usually having collars, either
short sleeves or long sleeves, cuffs and front opening.
MALE- polo shirt opening overlaps on the left sides where buttonholes are made.

FEMALE- shirt opening overlaps on the right side where buttonholes are made.
SHORTS- pants or trousers of less than knee length or longer. Shorts that are used in
home are made of cotton while shorts that are used in school or offices are made of
denims, twill, gabardine and lining fabric.

BLAZER- also known as coats. Several styles are used in front openings as well as with
the labels width and shapes.
