Modeling Building 1. Open STAAD - Pro Select New Project. Open Structure Wizard

The document describes the steps to model a building structure in STAAD.Pro, including: 1) Creating the grid frame model and assigning member properties 2) Assigning supports, dead loads, live loads, and seismic loads using the response spectrum method 3) Analyzing the model and reviewing results such as mode shapes and participating factors 4) Designing particular members like beams according to the specified code

RESPONSE SPECTRUM METHOD

1. MODELING BUILDING
1. Open STAAD.Pro Select New project. Open Structure Wizard.

2. Select Model Type as Frame Model (Grid Frame) and Provide required Parameters of the Structure.

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

3. After entering parameters, below structure appears. Merge the structure with STAAD.pro

4. Elevation of the structure showing dimensions

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

5. Use Command like translational repeat and copy paste option to create footing at 1.5m below GL.

6. The 3D Rendered view of the structure

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

7. Node Numbering

8. Member Numbering

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

9. Assign the Member Property
a) Select Define and Give dimensions in rectangle property and Assign Properties to members.

10. Assigning of Supports to the structure

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

11. Assign Loading Such Dead Load and Live Load.
a) Add Self Weight and Dead Load on Structure Under Dead Load Case.

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

b) Add Live Load on Structure Under Live Load Case.

12. Under Load Case Details, Add For Dynamic as DYNAX and DYNAZ.

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

13. Under Seismic Load, Go for Option Response Spectra and give required Parameters for Specific
direction i.e, for X and Z after calculating Ah= (Z/2)(I/R)(Sa/g).

14. Now Run Analysis and Go to View Output file, Click on results and Click on Participating factors.
For X direction value of (Vb/VB) = 2.5449 for this structure..

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

For Z direction value of (Vb/VB) = 7.0464 for this structure.

15. After getting ratio of base shear for X direction. Go to Spectrum and multiply with the existing Ah
Value ie; 0.016*2.5449 = 0.040. So that ratio of Base shear comes near to 1.

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

16. After getting ratio of base shear for X direction. Go to Spectrum and multiply with the existing Ah
Value ie; 0.016*7.0464 = 0.112. So that ratio of Base shear comes near to 1.

17. Now Run Analysis and Analyze to get required Results, Reactions

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

18. For Design of Particular Member. Go to Commands> Design > Concrete Design
Then Specify Code as IS 456.

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

19. Specifying Code, Click on Select Parameters and Select required Parameters.

20. Click on Define Parameters. Keep values same or change as required. Click on Commands and Click
on Parameter required for design i.e.; Beam, Column, Slab. Assign to required parameters.

DEPT. OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, KLSs GIT, BELAGAVI.

21. Here we have designed for a Beam Element of Structure.

MODE SHAPES

After the Analysis go to Post Processing, Select Response Spectrum Load and Corresponding Modes
