Circle Lesson Plan


Title and date of lesson: Sea Creatures- April 27, 2015
Subject: Science
Resource/materials:
Commotion In The Ocean by Giles Andres
Creature masks
Porthole
Puppet theater
Music playing on speakers

Standards:
1.1.3 Participate in simple sequences of movements
3.2.6 Listen and respond appropriately in conversations and group interactions by taking
turns and generally staying on topic.
Circle Set:
Children should know some creatures that live in the ocean.
Objectives of the Circle:
Children will be able to learn about new sea creatures.
Student potential difficulties with the content:
Children may have difficulty identifying the creatures
Children may not be able to do the yoga poses
Circle Procedure:
Ask the children What is your favorite animal?
Retell Commotion In The Ocean using the puppet theater and the masks.
Do ocean yoga while listening to ocean-themed music
ask the children to stand up and spread out
walk them through poses

Timetable-
1. Question- 2 minutes
2. Retelling- 7 minutes
3. Ocean yoga- 6 minutes
Modification for different learners-
We can place teachers right next to students who are having difficulty with the
yoga poses to model it
Evaluation/ Assessment-
Will the child be able to correctly identify the creatures?
Will the child be able to follow do the basic movements during yoga?

Lesson (Station 1)
Subject: Chill Out Bottles
NJ Standards:
1.4 Children express themselves through and develop an appreciation of the visual arts
Resource/ Materials:
Mini water bottles
Sand
Blue water
Small fish and creatures
Shells
Glitter
Funnel
Tablespoons
Glue
Hot glue gun
Lesson Set:
The children should know how to add sand and water to the bottle.
Objective:
Students will be able to make a chill out bottle by using their fine motor skills.
Student Potential Difficulties:
Some children may have difficulty adding sand and pouring the water into the
bottle
Procedure:
Children will come to the tables.
They will open their mini bottles
They will each add sand to their bottles using the funnel
They will then add whatever fish/shells they want to the bottles
Next they will add a tablespoon of glitter using the funnel
Lastly, they will use the funnel to add blue water to the bottle
The teachers will put some glue on the gap and twist it on. They will also put hot
glue around it to ensure that it cannot open.
Timetable:
1. Finding their seat- 1 minute
2. Putting the sand in- 3 minutes
3. Adding the creatures, shells, and glitter- 4 minutes
4. Pouring in the water- 3 minutes
Modifications:
We will hold the funnel for the child if they are struggling with using it to add
sand and water
Evaluation:
Observe how the children use the funnel to add sand and water to the bottle
Observe how the children put the small pieces into the bottle (fine motor)

Station 2
Objective: Children will be able to utilize their creativity while finding creatures in the
sand. They will also be developing math skills by counting and graphing.
Materials
Sand table
Sea creatures
Shovels
Finding creatures in the sand table and graphing
Hide plastic sea creatures in the sand
Have the children find them
Then count how many of each creature
Help them to graph on the graph how many of each creature they found
Sea horse
lobster
crab
star fish
squid
octopus
fish

Station 3
Objective: Children will be able to test their fine motor skills by creating their own test
fish tanks using tweezers.
Materials:
ice cube tray
small fish erasers/pieces
tweezers
cards with fish numbers
Have the children draw a card and place the same number of fish into each cube
on the tray using the tweezers
Snack
Under the Sea snack
Graham crackers
Blue yogurt
Fish fruit snacks
Water
Apple juice
Allergies:
Sarah- Peanuts, tree nuts, and pineapple
Annalisa- Peanuts

Closing Circle
Ocean animals vs not ocean animals chart activity
Have a t-chart labeled ocean animals and not ocean animals
Have pictures of both types of animals and have the children place them in
the correct spot
