nursery
Careful supervision of our young children is a priority in our nurseries. Although
Unity provides a paid nursery worker in our infant, toddler, and preschool
nurseries, volunteers are also needed at 8:45 am and 11:00 am. High school youth
may volunteer in the preschool room, or with their parent in the infant room.
Middle school youth may volunteer in the preschool room. Elementary age children
may volunteer in the preschool room with their parent. Childcare is also offered
during some weekly events and special services at Unity. Nursery volunteers are
also needed at these times.
children in worship
After the Childrens Sermon during worship, any children who have turned 4 years
old before September 1st of the current school year, or are currently in Kindergarten
or 1st Grade, are invited to participate in this special worship program. Children in
Worship (CIW) allows children to experience and praise God through Bible storytelling;
introduces the order and language of worship; and provides the opportunity for
children to respond to their worship experience through art, music and other means of
self-expression. Adults and Middle/High school youth are needed to serve in this very
reverent worship time.
worship bags
Worship Bags are available in the Narthex for children who stay in the worship service on
Sunday mornings to help them follow the service and have some hands-on activities to
do during Worship. Volunteers are needed to replenish Worship Bags following the 8:45
am and 11:00 am services. This can be done during the week before the next Sunday and
is an excellent family service project.

Adult volunteers are needed during Sunday morning Sunday school, in order that faith
will be an integral part of their daily lives, and that they might continue to grow in their
knowledge of the Bible and the Triune God. Opportunities to Serve: Teacher: Serve
on a teaching team to lead Childrens (ages 2 through 5th grade) Sunday school classes
(Curriculum provided); Substitute: Fill-in for teachers and/or helpers; Room helper:

sunday night live 2nd & 3rd grade program
Sunday Night Live programming for 2nd and 3rd graders focuses on Worship
Readiness and Learning to Use the Bible skills in the fall and mission, service, prayer
practices, etc. in the spring. Second and third graders meet from 5:00-6:00 pm for
the five weeks in the Fall and five weeks in the Spring that Sunday Night Live is offered.
Teachers and Assistants are needed to facilitate these programs.

youth ministry team
The vision for youth ministry at Unity is to create a fun, safe environment where youth
build and own their faith in order to apply it to their lives and relationships. This team
plans and coordinates the programs specifically for youth in sixth through twelfth grades.
The team meets monthly and reports to the Christian Education Ministry Team for
coordination with the Childrens and Adult Discipleship Ministry Teams.

confirmation sponsors
Adult volunteers are needed to mentor members of our eighth grade Confirmation Class.
Responsibilities include developing a relationship and meeting regularly with a group
of Confirmands during the school year, with a focus on sharing our individual faith
journeys. Training will be offered.
adult ministries
adult discipleship ministry team
The Adult Discipleship Ministry Team seeks to invite and inspire all people to explore
their faith and find their connection to God, in order to transform their lives through
the Living Word. This team plans and coordinates the Christian education programs
for adults, including Sunday school, Sunday Night Live opportunities, weekday Bible
studies, and other short-term study opportunities. The team meets monthly and reports
to the Christian Education Ministry Team for coordination with the Childrens and
Youth Ministry Teams.

communications ministries
Mission: To enhance and expand communications with congregation members, and in the
community, to support the mission of Unity Presbyterian Church.
bereavement guild
The guild provides compassionate hospitality to families who have experienced a death. This
group assists with set up, serving, and cleanup of either the receiving of friends or a family
meal due to the death of a church family member.
card ministry
This group writes notes to church members who are ill, bereaved or have other concerns, to let
them know that their church family is thinking of them. Birthday cards are sent to members
who are celebrating their 80th (or over) birthday. The notes and cards are in the church
office for your use in this ministry. You will receive a letter of instruction, and will be given a
schedule for writing notes or cards.
food team
This is a 5 or 6 person team that provides a meal when there is a need within our
church family, usually due to a death or illness in the family. Meals are also provided
for families of newborns.
prayer chain
As a member of this team, you will be asked to pray for others as needs arise.
transportation
This team provides a ride to appointments, errands and Sunday services as needed.
congregational breakfast
This team coordinates the 5 or 6 congregational breakfasts during the Sunday School
hour. Volunteers are needed to set up/clean up, prepare and serve breakfast.
dining groups
Dining Group members meet quarterly in homes or restaurants for a time of food and
fellowship. Meetings Quarterly: on Friday or Saturday evenings or Sunday after church.
columbarium care
Help maintain Columbarium area as needed.
general maintenance
Paint, basic carpentry skills, electrical repair, and general handyman skills.
health ministries
Mission: To provide support and encouragement for the health, well-being, and wholeness
of our congregation. This group recognizes the integral relationship between body, mind
and spirit, as we strive to be the persons God calls us to be.
care teams
Be part of a team that ministers to the needs of a specific church member who may be
elderly, ill, home-bound, or in need of practical assistance.
cpr class
Teach and/or assist in planning bi-yearly CPR classes.
equipment closet
This team works to increase awareness of durable medical equipment closet to
congregation. Team also manages and maintains inventory.
fitness activities
Sponsor classes and events to encourage an active, healthy lifestyle. Please contact us
if you can lead a class.
Mens Ministries is open to all Unity male members, (regardless of age) and their guests.
They meet, year round, on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, from 8 am to 9 am in the
Fellowship Hall. Their ministry is all about fellowship and spiritual growth. The ministry
averages over 50 hours per month in volunteer assistance and project participation time.
Look for the meeting notifications in the weekly newsletter, Sunday announcement
sheets and the website.
Fellowship and discussion of Gods word, along with a breakfast prepared by our
members, is our primary goal. We also make use of our time and many talents by
assisting members of the congregation when requests are made, working with other
Unity ministries that support our congregation and community, completing small
projects around the church and participation in various community and Providence
Presbytery projects.
crop walk
This event takes place in October each year to raise money for hunger programs for
Church World Service. Twenty-five percent of the money raised in York County
stays in the county for ongoing programs. A coordinator is needed to plan for church
participation. Also needed are members to handle publicity for the walk and coordinate
sign-ups for interested walkers and donors. Its good for your soles, too!
nutrition center
This program, which meets in Unity Hall, provides a hot meal and companionship to the
elderly in our community who are in need. Members are needed to help with the home-
delivered meals on a weekly or substitute basis and to lead activities. Donations to be used
as Bingo prizes are also welcome!
seasonal missions
The Outreach Ministry encourages participation in the Thanksgiving Cornucopia, as well
as the Angel Tree service project before and during Advent. Other mission projects, such
as Blankets Plus and the collection of used eyeglasses, take place each year. Volunteers are
needed to help coordinate, oversee, publicize, and participate in these projects.
Four Presbyterian Women (PW) Circles meet monthly for Bible study, service, and
fellowship. PW membership is open to all women in the congregation. Circle names
and meeting times are listed on the Individual Gifts Sharing Form. Circles opportunities
include: providing birthday cakes for the Nutrition Center, preparing meals for church
families when needed, supplying lunches for Habitat for Humanity builds, working on
local missions, and attending PW Presbytery-wide Fall Retreat and Spring Gathering.
The PW also plan and execute the following annual events: Mother/Daughter Luncheon,
Unitys Womens Retreat, Christmas Auction, Unitys Christmas Post, sending care
packages to Unitys college students, and contributing financial and volunteer support for
several local charities and scholarships.
worship ministries
acolyte coordinators
Acolytes are worship leaders who carry in the light and light the candles at the beginning
of worship and carry the light out at the end of the service. They also help in other worship
leadership responsibilities during special services. Acolyte coordinators train and supervise
all fourth, fifth and sixth graders who would like to serve as acolytes.
communion preparation
Serve on a team to prepare the communion elements on Sundays when the Lords Supper
is celebrated. A training class is offered. Preparation occurs on the Saturday before Sunday
communion, as well as before, between, and after worship on Sunday, and for special services.
Teams normally prepare communion once or twice per year. Bread bakers are also needed.
usher
Ushers are asked to serve for one month. Duties include handing out bulletins, assisting
people to seats in the sanctuary, passing the offering plate, checking pews after the service,
collecting Welcome Pad sheets after the 11:00 am service and straightening the sanctuary
after the service as needed. Assistance at funerals is also needed.
greeter
Greeters serve on Sunday at either service, and are asked to arrive in time to warmly welcome
those attending worship.
offering assistant
Adults, youth and children (10+ years old or accompanied by a parent) are needed to collect
offering during the 8:45 am or 11:00 am worship service for one month periods throughout
the year. Duties include helping the ushers to collect the offering. Offering Assistants are able
to participate in the worship service except during the time the offering is received.
visual arts
The Visual Arts team provides help to the Worship & Music Ministries through projects that
involve visual artwork and fabric. In the past, this team has worked on making choir robes
and banners for worship. Other projects may include such things as helping with costumes
for the Christmas Pageant and helping with scenery for backdrops.
related arts
On occasion there may be a need for drama volunteers and liturgical dancers. Drama
volunteers would be needed especially to help with children choirs musicals and pageants.
Assistance is often needed helping children rehearse lines, building sets and props, and even
adult participation in the play itself. Those with dance experience may be needed to work
with the worship leaders and clergy to develop a liturgical dance that would be used in
worship to enhance the scripture reading for the day, a Biblical story, or a musical selection.
sanctuary flowers
Provide flowers in the sanctuary for Sunday worship. Members will be contacted by the
Flower Coordinator when flowers are needed.
seasonal decorations
Set up, decorate, and pack up seasonal decorations for the sanctuary and in other areas
throughout the church facilities, as appropriate for the season. Heavy lifting may be required
for setup and takedown. Special projects include making and maintaining the Advent
Wreath, Christmas decorating in the Sanctuary, making Chrismons to decorate a Chrismon
tree, helping decorate a Chrismon tree, as well as other seasonal decorations.
music ministries
chancel choir
This choir is open for adults and youth who are in the tenth grade or higher. The Chancel
Choir provides service music for worship on a weekly basis. The choir most often sings for
11:00 am worship, but occasionally they do sing at the 8:45 am service. Special music is
provided several times during the year, including the annual Lessons and Carols service in
December. Rehearsal is on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the Choir Room.
instrumentalist
If you play an instrument, there are many opportunities for services at Unity. Many anthems
for both adults and children require additional instruments. All types of brass (particularly
trumpet), flute, oboe, violin, guitar and percussion are occasionally called for. Occasionally a
group is formed to play at special events. Piano accompanists are needed from time to time.
cherub choir
The Cherub Choir is for children ages 4 through first grade. This choir sings for worship
on a regular basis and is responsible for the Christmas Joy Service, special events
and musicals. Adult helpers are needed to assist during rehearsals and special programs,
serve as accompanists, and to help coordinate special programs. Rehearsals are on
Sundays at 5:00-5:45.
junior choir
The Junior Choir is for children in grades second through fifth. This choir sings for
worship on a regular basis and is responsible for the Christmas Joy Service, special events
and musicals. Adult helpers are needed to assist during rehearsals and special programs.
Rehearsals are on Sundays at 4:15-5:00.
joyful ringers
This handbell choir is comprised of adult ringers who are committed to attending weekly
rehearsals and playing in worship several times a year. Attendance is crucial for the success
of this handbell choir. Prior handbell experience is preferred, but not required. However,
the ability to read music is required. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 6:00.
handbell substitutes
Substitute ringers are needed on occasion to fill a position in either the Joyful Ringers or the
Canterbury Bells. It is difficult to rehearse in bells if a spot is missing, so this group serves a
vital role in the handbell program. Music reading and handbell experience is strongly advised.
deacon
These officers carry out ministries of compassion within the congregation, as well as other
duties assigned by the session. Among the duties currently performed by the deacons are
budget management, ushering, upkeep of church property, and contact with church visi-
tors. Deacons serve a three-year term upon the election of the congregation.
ruling elder
Along with the ministers, ruling elders provide spiritual leadership for the church, and are
responsible for its overall functioning. All active church members are eligible for
election. Ruling elders serve a three-year term upon the election of the congregation.
nominating committee
This team, comprised of church members and officers, places names before the congrega-
tion for election to the offices of ruling elder and deacon. They may also be asked to bring
other nominations to particular offices as needed.
staff team
This team, comprised of church members and officers, provides support and direction for
members of the church staff. Includes annual review of salaries and benefits, employment
recommendations of non-ordained staff, and support for staff members and their families.
Working with the Head of Staff, they carry out a process of evaluation and review, so as to
enhance and strengthen the work of each staff member.
