I remember growing up, I used to attend a youth church group. We would get
together every Wednesday evening and discuss various topics about Christianity. On one occasion,
the youth leader brought an exercise for us to do. What he did was take one of our drawings and cut
it up into several puzzle pieces. He split the group up into several sub-groups and gave us each a
few pieces of the puzzle. He instructed us to put the pieces of the puzzle together to complete the
drawing and we were instructed NOT to talk to each other at all during this exercise. We each began
to try to put the pieces together; however I had pieces that belonged to one of the other guys and
they had pieces I needed. Therefore there was no way that we could fit the pieces together and
complete the puzzle. After some time of struggling to put our puzzles together, the youth leader told
us to stop the exercise. He looked at our confused faces and asked me; Gerardo, why didnt you
help others in your group out? Clearly, you had pieces of the puzzle others were missing, but you
held on to them. Why is that? To which my reply was obvious; You told us not to talk to each
other. He replied; Correct, I did say for your group not to speak to each other, but while you
watched someone struggle to put his puzzle together, why didnt you help him out by giving him the
missing piece without saying a word? I never said that you werent allowed to HELP each other.
As you can imagine, I didnt know what to say but I did catch the lesson he was trying to impart. Why
is it that we wait until someone verbalizes and asks for help before we bother
to offer any assistance?
Please note, I dont want this message to come across in a negative way at all. For like the youth
leader, I simply want to illustrate a point. Why is it that we assume that our Brothers have it all in
order? Making a Lodge work requires that each of us put our best effort into our Craft. I would never
expect every Brother to commit to attending every meeting, supporting every cause, or memorizing
every ceremony and lecture. However, I would expect my Brother who holds a position in our officer
line to do their best in fulfilling their duties. To be courteous about finding a replacement, or giving the
Brothers notice when they arent able to attend a meeting where they are needed and are expected
to be. Every officer in our Lodge holds a piece of the puzzle to be able to make our Lodge work. If
we have missing pieces, and our Brothers are holding on to their piece, how are we expected to keep
our Lodge growing strong? Again, please dont take this negatively. In fact, my intention with this is to
demonstrate how important and valuable each one of you really is to our Lodge.
Without you, our Lodge would not exist. You each hold a piece of the whole of the puzzle that makes
up St. George Lodge #33. Each of these pieces is extremely important and valuable. My hope for
our Lodge moving forward is that we adopt a spirit of collaboration. Also that you realize how critical
you are to the health of our Lodge and that each of you would appreciate the immense power you
hold inside of you by being a member of St. George Lodge #33.
I cant wait to see what the future of our Lodge holds. And with the leadership of our Worshipful
Master-Elect Brother

Many of our well-deserving Masonic Brothers were honored for their service and dedication to the
defense of our country before the November Stated Meeting. Many active members attended who
collectively represented nearly 100 years of Military service in the various branches of service including
the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines. A new United States flag donated to our Lodge anonymously by
a neighbor was dedicated to these Veteran Brothers and now flies proudly over our Masonic Temple.
